Title: Rear spring clamps
Post by: simonandjuliet on 07 January, 2018, 06:46:34 PM
Has anyone a source for the 4 clamps that go around the rear springs to hold them together, I am slightly concerned that the tabs will break when I take them off to clean the leaves/inter-leaves

Thanks

I have fabricated 'home made' shackles in the past. To eliminate transverse movement mainly?

I got a set of clamps from Omicron.

just out of interest - cleaning the leaves because ? Aesthetic, wear, likelihood of breaking? Mine look a bit rusty in-between the leaves but I was not planning to strip, you have me thinking now.....

...be careful when you remove the old clamps as the plastic "bushes" underneath each clamp are very delicate and I don't believe there any replacements available.

Thanks for your comments, just waiting to see if Omicron have them, but I am cleaning it for several reasons, aesthetics yes, but also to make sure the interleaves are OK and that it is all moving nicely to ensure a supple ride. Made a huge difference on the Aprilia

I remember making my own up out of thin steel sheet. Even with Fulvia now making replacements is the norm for unusual items. but I guess Omicron will have them as tooling is not going to be much.

Just bought them from Omicron as well as a pair of the flanged bolts - I asked why they were flanged (therefore special) and the answer was "so that you don't overtighten them !"

Anyway, they were not unreasonable so I bought them

makes sense, not worried about aesthetics as under the car, but ride improvement would be a good reason to add to the to do list (and I love fettling the car, its at least 40% of the enjoyment, 20% researching tasks to do to the car and 40% driving!)
