Title: Lancia Aurelia Front wing repeaters
Post by: lancialulu on 27 March, 2018, 11:20:22 AM
I believe that late series (VI) B20's had front wing repeaters. What do folk think about them. Should they be there are original equipment or should they be removed?

How long is a piece of string? Which do you prize more, originality or practicality for modern driving? It may depend on whether the car is used a lot on the road or kept for high days and holidays plus shows. Can I tick both boxes?

Haven't seen that style before.  I like those lights, but not necessarily on that car.  However, at least living where I do, I think indicator repeaters are worth having and put some on.  Maybe I took Fulvia "tear drop" ones off and then put these little round ones on.

Not sure that's any help - but thank you for the excuse to look some pictures up :)

In a number of countries this is a question of what is required by law. Most B20s seem to have small, circular repeaters.

I was told that Italian law arrived at wing repeaters late and so all on earlier cars were "add ons" and depended on the whim of the owner what was used. My B10 had round ones with a chrome back but after the crash on the Stelvio Pass they were replaced by round (from memory) Vauxhall ones.

I've voted "not" on the basis that they spoil the look.

Should little round ones be added?  That depends on the use its put to.  If you are a "I need two good door mirrors" person then "yes", but I know many people are "no mirrors" or "original wing mirrors" and that's fine as long as you also drive that bit more deliberately.

I am seem to recall that around late 50's the govt required all new cars to have these repeaters and they had to be retrofitted to older cars. This was supposedly because the indicators couldn't be seen from a car alongside it.
This occurred at the same time that separate, amber rear direction indicators had be fitted on new cars.
My 6th Series B20 was factory fitted with bicoloured rear lamps not unlike the ones fitted to Farina Austins, 404 Peugeots etc. The interior of the rear mudguards carried evidence of hasty modifications. The car also had side repeaters on the front mudguards.
My B12 however has no repeaters because it was shipped to Australia in 1956; and its taillights already incorporated an amber lens for the turn indicator as did the front lenses.
I sometimes wonder whether the B12's parklight assemblies were a precursor to the modern 'wrap-around' lenses because the amber indicator is at the extreme corners of the mudguards and visible to someone alongside the car.

Brian

I think you are right about the wrap round B12 front (and rear) indicator /side light. It was also adopted for series 1 Fulvia.....

regardless of the poll I have decided not to interfer with the beautiful wing panel on my B12 .....

So "not interfere" and it remains "without" or it already has them?

it had after market item attached to the inside of the front wing so they were below the arch. The road wheels on both sides munched the wiring which procted into the arch due to the rubber boot.....
