Title: Steering box - oil Post by: colinw on 01 May, 2018, 01:12:27 PM I would like to change the gearbox oil on the steering box on my 1800 Flavia Coupe but as yet the drain plug? has not revealed itself. Sorry to ask such a basic question but can anyone help? Thank you
Title: Re: Steering box - oil Post by: Angle Grinder on 01 May, 2018, 02:45:44 PM You'll need a big syringe and a bit of tubing to suck it out, but I suspect most unrestored Flavia steering boxes have seals that let the oil seep out. I use a Penrite product that has a viscosity somewhere between oil and grease. If you warm it up it will pour into the steering box and then it "sets" with a viscosity that prevents it leaking out past old seals.

Syringe idea is interesting I shall give it try. Have cleaned up the box and now I look for the potential leaks. They used to leak, but don't any more.
