Title: Paint - Engine Bay Post by: colinw on 13 August, 2018, 08:05:37 PM A few areas in the engine bay in my 1800 PF coupe are in need of light rust removal and application black paint, such as the bracket for the battery, the bracket which supports the air cleaner and the main cross member. The question is what paint should I be using and what gloss level - gloss or satin? Brush applied. I have been told that smooth Hammerite can be used but I am concerned about future contact of petrol and oils on the painted surfaces and of course heat.
Any thoughts from the forum, I am sure some of you have been there before me, thankyou. Title: Re: Paint - Engine Bay Post by: frankxhv773t on 13 August, 2018, 11:12:44 PM Check Norman Thomas' thread on his slow Fulvia S2 coupe restoration.

Hammerite is not susceptible to fuel or oil, and heat shouldn't affect it in the places you are talking of using it. Brian 8227 8) Title: Re: Paint - Engine Bay Post by: colinw on 15 August, 2018, 09:53:40 PM Many thanks Brian and Frank.
Amazing how the price varies for Hammerite. Chose an aerosol for off car jobs. Halfords want £12 a can and on line it comes in at £7 and a few pennies, post free too! |
