In my imaginary garage I have one in silver with a red interior (it's parked beside my imaginary Supersport Z which is Zagato green with a red interior). What is the colour choice?

Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: Dave Gee on 03 April, 2020, 06:41:50 PM Hello
Some time ago I sent off for respraying the refurbished body shell of my Flavia sport. Meanwhile I made a start on preparing all the other parts of the car for reassembly. I have come across a slightly odd crack in the rear spring which is definitely not one I would have expected - please see attached picture. Firstly I am going to have to replace both springs. Does anyone know of a good manufacturer or alternatively have a serviceable second hand set? Lastly, out of sheer curiosity does anyone recognise this type of crack in metal and why it would have occurred? Best wishes Dave Gee Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: Dave Gee on 27 April, 2021, 03:45:20 PM At long last some progress at the paint shop :) Dave Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: lancianut666 on 28 April, 2021, 08:08:40 AM Can't wait to see the finished job :) :) :)

A friend is doing the wiring for me as it isn't my strong point. Today, when sorting out the cigarette lighter, I was surprised to be told that I already have one. He took out the ash tray, and when following the wire through, found that one of the handles pulls sideways to reveal a cigarette lighter in the end. It is evident that he and I are not alone in not knowing about this find, as the ash tray was full from the previous owner, not only of cigarette butts, but matches as well. I have had another Flavia on the road for 16 years, and never realised that this neat piece of design exists. It's no good for sat nav, as the diameter of the actual lighter is around that of a cigarette, but it gives us a point from which to set in a period cigarette lighter of the size needed. Pictures attached.

Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: Dave Gee on 20 October, 2021, 04:54:44 PM Had the heater matrix re built and have now put it back in the car Dave Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: lancianut666 on 25 October, 2021, 09:43:25 AM Lovely!
Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: GG on 25 October, 2021, 01:33:59 PM looks great. How hard is it to pull the matrix out?
Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: Dave Gee on 26 October, 2021, 09:08:23 AM With the car in its present condition, ie seats out to give access to the underneath of the dashboard, pulling out the matrix is fairly straightforward. Four bolts hold the box in position, and once they are out it then takes a little manipulation. There are also two screws and two spring clips holding the box together. Once out, the heater matrix was sent out to be refurbished.
I then relined the box with new foam and freed off the seized vents on the side of the heater box. Putting everything back was simply the reverse of taking out the matrix. The same company that refurbished the matrix also pressure tested and cleaned out the oil cooler for me. Hope that helps. On looking at other Flavia sports some do not have any vents at all Dave Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: Dave Gee on 08 January, 2022, 10:35:16 AM Door Windows
One of the problems I have encountered is that the driver's side window has been vandalised and is opaque in sections. Replacement is the only option as it is so bad. The Flavia Consortium does not have any spare door glass, so I have spoken with Colin from the Consortium about the possibility of remanufacturing this. It appears that there are 2 different shapes of door glass and apertures. Colin and I are trying to acquire as much information as possible about these different shapes, and would appreciate people sending us paper patterns of their windows and door glass, with information about their car model and importantly, year of manufacture, so that we have as many samples as possible to compare. The aim is to find the cut off date for the change in shape. If you would be willing to help us with this, we will need 4 patterns from each car, one of the glass and one of the aperture on each side. It would be helpful to know if anyone else is interested in new door glass should we be able to remanufacture. Any patterns can be sent on to me and I will forward them to Colin. My address is in the club database. To make matters more difficult in my project, the metal support frame is corroded and on the passenger side, this frame is missing completely. I have therefore had to look into remanufacturing the support frames from sheet steel. I have fitted a prototype and this works well. Pictures attached. If you want more details about this, please let me know. Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: DavidLaver on 09 January, 2022, 10:09:17 PM I've taken a drivers door glass pattern, passenger side broke and I expect the drivers was saved by being left open in storage. It was stored such a long time the car changed shape :( As such the drivers door glass would smash if I closed the door with the window raised. Ref your rear leaf springs - are they new or refurb? It may have been you I spoke to a few months ago about finding new leaf springs for my Flavia 2000 Coupe. I sent the Consortium's OE spring to 2 specialists now and got quotes over £700 a pair [£940 plus VAT pair from supposedly cheap GME!!]. Think I may need better negotiation skills.
Ref the crack in your old spring - it's identical to the 'S' shaped crack I just found on a used spring. I hadn't noticed it until I started to unscrew the small bolt through the middle, so I'm not sure if the release in stress caused it or just made it more evident. The rear leaf springs do seem quite fine-leafed and delicate for he job of a heavy Flavia rear [less so the Sport I guess], I also wonder if Italian steel of the time was of the highest quality? Title: Re: Flavia Sport Post by: Dave Gee on 01 March, 2024, 09:54:45 AM I have finally got the headlining and all external glass fitted, using a new windscreen that the consortium had made.Hopefully getting the car for an MOT for the end of March. I am still looking for the stainless steel trim that goes along the top of the door on the outside face and an aluminium strip that goes along the top of the sill, holding the door rubber in place. If anyone has any of these trims, please get in touch before I start getting them manufactured.
