Title: Tyres Post by: Raahauge on 08 January, 2020, 07:56:15 PM Good evening.
I have 16" wheels and plan to fit new tyres. My tyres are old and have a tendency to follow any lines in the road which I would like to reduce. Does anyone have views on whether cross ply or radials are better, and also experience of different brands. Thanks Mike Title: Re: Tyres Post by: Mikenoangelo on 09 January, 2020, 09:25:35 AM I'm on the Michelin rims and when replacing the tyres (one of which was at least 20 years old although it looked new and was described as such by the vendor of the car) only had the choice of Michelin X or the Superconfort crossplies.
I chose the X and can say that the grip and road behaviour are excellent. The only minor disadvantage of the X is that the effective gear ratio is a bit lower, giving according to my sums, 16.05mph/1000 rpm in top gear compared with 16.75 for the Superconfort. The Augusta is a bit low geared anyway - how I wish he'd gone for a fifth gear instead of the freewheel. The Beta was considered to be leading the way in saloons forty years later.....

I have always used crossplys on Augustas & Belnas, I my view current Michelins look to fat. I have Avon Tourist 550x16 on my Belna, they were fitted by James Parry. Yesterday had new tyres fitted to the Artena Avon 14x45 again fitted by James.
