Title: Reverse lights on
Post by: bobhenry999 on 13 November, 2020, 03:44:04 PM
Hi Chaps,

Firstly, I hope that you are all well and keeping safe during this strange time.

I was preparing my 815 Coupe for the winter sojourn today, and I noticed that the reverse lights remain on even when it’s idling in neutral.
I turned the car off and back on again, and also went through all the gears, but the blooming things are still lit.

This is not something that I have come across before, does anyone have any ideas ?

Bob

reverse switch on the side of the gearbox is stuck on?? It switches 12v so not likely to find 12 v at the bulb unless the switch is made..

Chaps,

It seems that I have a self-healing Flavia !. I Went out this morning and they have magically gone off, so all is well.
Tim and Richard thanks for your messages.

The next time you use reverse they may well stick on again much to the annoyance of following drivers....

Some times the end cap of this switch comes off leaving the mech to the open and potential for crud and corrosion although I know you dont go in for either....

Tim,

Thanks for that, I’ll check it out at the weekend to see if the end cap has come off.

take care when removing the switch. I recall taking one of a gearbox that had been rough handled and the bakelite (?) end piece with the electrical connector had been snapped off leaving the plunger part dangerously loose as it could have fallen into the box. I removed it like a bomb specialist and all was well.

Not likely to be a problem for you, but do go easy just in case.

Thanks for that warning, I am going to take a look at it over this weekend.

Just seen this post - my 2000 coupe reverse lights don't come on at all.  Is the switch easily accessed for inspection?  Mark
