Title: Porsche 911 (993) for sale - am I allowed to post this here?
Post by: chriswgawne on 15 November, 2020, 04:53:58 PM
Before I advertise Jacky's car elsewhere I wondered whether any LMC member might be interested?
Its a UK spec 1985 narrow bodied non variorum 6 speed manual 993 Carrera Coupe in metallic black with tan leather interior, hard backed seats and black original wheels but in every other respect is standard and is garaged in Sunningdale, Berks where we are for the next few weeks..
Jacky bought the car in 2008 from Northway Porsche after running around in an Integrale Evo 2 for a few years and 35k miles. Ray Northway has continued to look after the car to date ( I have used Northway for many many years and continue to do so for my 993 Twin Turbo) and he knows the car well if anyone wants to have a chat with him.
The body is in good condition and mileage is quite high at 198k miles ( I did >500k miles in my first 911) but its a big 3,600cc engine which is quiet and smooth running. The non varioram engine is very free revving ( more so than the Varioram engines which is nice ) and the car has the 'noise' factory option which give you a nice noise in the cabin on wide throttle openings - with 911s you tend to leave most of the noise behind you so the faster you go the quieter it gets. The engine has had new cam covers and gaskets, upper and lower within the last 15k miles  - these are the most obvious areas which leak. All 993 non turbo engines end up needing a top end rebuild eventually due to oil leaks and the parts for this exercise are well under £1k. This is reflected in the asking price.
Also within the last 2 years/ 5k miles it has had a starter motor, new battery, new window channels within the doors ( the originals had corroded), new tyres, brake discs all round and a new offside rear exhaust. The clutch has plenty of life in it ( we have always got around 100k miles out of 911 clutches).
There is a full set of history with the car going back to when it was sold new in Leeds.
It is getting so little use now that Jacky has a VW Golf R and whilst we both prefer driving her 911 to my twin turbo 993, we both feel it should be sold to someone who can use and enjoy it.
Looking at the likes of Pistonheads, over the last few months there are have been  no clean, running manual rhd 993 manual Coupes for sale for less that £33k. Jacky would consider offers beginning with a '2' but close to £30k.
When lockdown restrictions are eased, if unsold I will list the car on Pistonheads.

I had a Tiptronic 93 Targa in Turque before finding a long term relationship with Fessia Lancias (and others). I have to say the 993 was a most accomplished car and if I was looking for something outside Lancia a 993 manual would be top of the list..... I really enjoyed the steering feel and the assured handling with its fully developed multilink rear suspension. You could also do quite a bit of work on them yourself....
