Title: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 11 March, 2021, 03:58:01 PM Hi
After nearly five years of initial downs and then ups of ownership and the same amount of time as a member of LMC I have finally got around to my second post. I bought my Fulvia Sport 1.3S at auction unseen (I was at Classic Le Mans that weekend) and the car was described as being 1970, when collected the V5 had date of registration 1983 but with a notice to say that the car was declared manufactured 1971. The chassis number is 818363002603 which, according to documentation on the Viva-Lancia website, does show that it is a 1970 car, I presume this information is correct but have wondered how to get this added to the V5. This chassis number shows that it is a series 1 RHD 1.3S which is correct and as 1970 was the year that the series 2 was introduced it may not be worth getting this change made if it is costly or time consuming. As it was registered in the UK in 1983 I assume it was imported at that date, I suppose it could be one of the last occasions of an Italian specifying a RHD car, alternatively I assume an import from a RHD country, any thoughts? The upsides of the car are innumerable, I never get tired of looking at it, and the driving experience is a joy, though I have only driven it once in the last 18 months due to the current circumstances, looking forward to taking it for a long run soon! The downside was the buying experience which, five years on, still makes me angry but I won't go into details on a public forum (I have worked in auctioneering for 33 years so am very familiar with how proper auctioneers behave). If anyone (other than the vendor of the car at the auction) has any previous information about the car it would be gratefully received. Andrew Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Michael Bedford on 11 March, 2021, 04:24:51 PM Andrew, simply on the question of updating the V5 to add the chassis no (or any other relevant details), this should be fairly straight forward. There is a box on the form if you want to correct any details and I assume at the moment there is no chassis no recorded so you would be correcting that to add one. The Gov.uk website gives details of the process (https://www.gov.uk/change-vehicle-details-registration-certificate). You send the original form to DVLA with supporting evidence (e.g. covering letter and photo of the VIN plate giving the chassis no.). To avoid DVLA insisting on an inspection you might want to get a Lancia specialist garage or other classic specialist to inspect the car and write you a letter confirming that the chassis no. is as you say it is.
I asked DVLA to update an engine no. on a Maserati last year and they turned that round in about 3 weeks I think. In terms of the history, you can also approach Lancia Classiche to see if they can give you any further info on the car (including the original engine no. and year of manufacture) but obviously you have to pay for that service. Michael. Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 11 March, 2021, 04:30:46 PM Michael, that's brilliant, I will get on with the V5 straight away.
On the Classiche I understand that the information on Fulvias is lost so hoping someone on here remembers the car!! I suggest you contact Roddy Young, he has an extensive register of Zagato cars and their history. It includes DPH119J.

Andrew Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: frankxhv773t on 11 March, 2021, 08:45:25 PM I used the LMC's services to get a 1960s car that had been was unrecorded registered with the DVLA under its original registration so the club may be able to help certifying the chassis number for you.
Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 11 March, 2021, 09:52:33 PM Thanks Frank, just goes to show that I should have been on the forum before now!!

The production records held by the Club show your car to be made in 1971. 1971 Fulvia Sport chassis numbers ran from 1337 to 2925. Neil Sorry, correction - I was looking at Series 2 production. You were right with 1970; 1.3S 1970 chassis numbers 2199 to 2898.Looks like someone made the same mistake back in the day..... Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 12 March, 2021, 12:51:49 PM Neil, thanks for confirming the date, I think you're right about the 1971 error
EOG thanks for the link, memories of what was normality at the Newby Hall Italian car day, hopefully we'll be back there soon Scott very true, can't wait to get out again, though it is sleeting here as I type so not ideal weather!! Interesting, I thought that by definition the 1.3S (versus 1.3) was a series 2 car? Obviously not! Your chassis number is a 818.363 - which is a series 1 car. Ive attached an image describing the breakdown of the different Sport models. The 818.363 is a Series 1 car (the LHD version being the 818.362), whereas the Series 2 1.3S was the 818.650.... Regardless, its a lovely looking car! All the best Rog. ps. the red outlined box is marking the all alloy cars. Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 05 April, 2021, 10:05:15 AM Hi Rog,
Thanks for this. Definitely Series 1, side hinged bonnet, separate compartment for spare wheel etc and looks like a 1970 date. Cheers Andrew Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Rog on 11 April, 2021, 01:56:10 AM Hi Andrew
Here's my car...imported it from Italy. Its a 1968...the LHD version of yours. All the best Rog Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 11 April, 2021, 09:10:29 PM Hi Rog,
That looks absolutely fantastic!!! Never get tired of looking at them. Cheers Andrew Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Rog on 15 April, 2021, 03:30:53 AM Thanks Andrew
Do you happen to know the color name for your car? Rosso San Siro? I’m pretty sure mine is the same and have been trying to work out what it’s called. Thanks Rog. Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: lancialulu on 15 April, 2021, 09:12:46 AM Thanks Andrew Is it not rosso palermo?Do you happen to know the color name for your car? Rosso San Siro? I’m pretty sure mine is the same and have been trying to work out what it’s called. Thanks Rog. Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 15 April, 2021, 01:39:30 PM To be honest I've always assumed that it was San Siro but I really don't know so will bow to greater knowledge, I hadn't heard of Rosso Palermo before, interesting!

I’m pretty sure mine is the same and have been trying to work out what it’s called. Thanks Rog. I don’t think it’s Rosso Palermo. That color is a little darker and a little orangey.... I think it’s Rosso San Siro or Rosso or Rosso Corsa (which seems to be frequently called just “Rosso”) I’ve attached some info I found on Rosso colors on Series 1 cars and a pic of a 2nd series Rosso Palermo car (bit tough to really judge as photos aren’t all that reliable for color (darker or light or different photographic color space). Rosso, Palermo and San Siro are all possibilities according to that article I found. But I may well be wrong ! Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Sliding Pillar on 17 April, 2021, 07:05:45 AM Hmmmm, I don't know where you got my copyright photo of the 1600 Sport I used to own from????
It was Rosso Palermo. The colour code for Rosso San Siro is shown in the photo below. To see this colour on a car see: http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5820.0 Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: lancialulu on 17 April, 2021, 08:04:30 AM I stick by rosso palermo!
Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Andrew Parker on 17 April, 2021, 10:24:18 PM Sorry, I hadn't meant to trigger a debate about the names and shades of colours, I appreciate that my car was subject to a bare metal respray before my ownership and so may not be an accurate Lancia/Zagato colour, but am really happy to learn more about the original colours.
I had assumed that it was San Siro, but if it is Rosso Palermo I am equally happy with that, just delighted that it is a beautiful car that I feel privileged to own. Many thanks Andrew Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Rog on 21 April, 2021, 11:25:49 PM @Andrew : totally agree. Beautiful car whatever the color is called.... @Sliding Pillar : sorry if you were surprised by my posting a picture of a your car. I was simply trying to use it to demonstrate the color "Rosso Palermo"....my apologies... The link that you included, I believe, is much closer to the correct color.....in other words "Rosso San Siro". I bow down to lancialulu's knowledge of all things Lancia but I don't think he's correct about this color based on what Ive found out. rog. Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Paul Greenway on 25 April, 2021, 09:18:58 PM My car was originally Rosso San Siro as per the label in the glovebox, there is evidence on the inside of the doors of the original lighter orangey red colour as per the competitzione cars. It was resprayed Rosso Palermo in the mid eighties, the colour it retains today- see photo in Drive it day post earlier today.
Title: Re: Zagato history Post by: Rog on 20 May, 2021, 09:15:48 PM Came across this image showing the optional paint colors....and the difference between Rosso Palermo and Rosso San Siro.
