Title: Dashboard and heater removal
Post by: hugh on 18 April, 2021, 10:46:17 AM
I'm in the midst of a marathon rebuild of a Fulvia HF Lusso from what was approaching flat-pack state. I have now got to the stage where I have to remove the black top to the dash (whatever its technical name is), the dash and the heater unit. Is there a Teletubbies-style set of instruction on how to do this anywhere? I saw Ant on Wheeler Dealers do it in 30 seconds - but I think there was a good deal of artistic licence involved....
Thanks for any help with this, Hugh

The dash top is held with 4(?) M6 nuts. Awkward to lay on your back in an HF due to the seat mounts and suggest a board is placed in side the car while having to peer under the car with a porch and long M6 (10mm) socket and extension bar.

Thanks Lancialulu - very helpful. I have already employed the board-across-the seat-supports technique while I was welding the floors - but I think it will have to be upgraded to board-plus-cushions for this exercise. Hughj

Hugh - there are indeed 4 nuts, 10mm M6, that hold the dash top in place.  The threaded studs that they attach to are embedded in the dash top.  The studs at either end are horizontal, the other two, approximately a third and two-thirds of the way across the dash top, are vertical.

There is a really useful two page instruction sheet that somebody on the Forum developed some years ago, that outlines how to remove/install the dash top, dashboard, and lower trim pads.  I, and quite a few people on here, have found it very useful.  I'll e-mail you a copy.

The foam dash top may be very fragile and will crack if it is bent in any way.  Take great care!

Thanks for the warning, David, but it already has a mega-crack down the middle! I shall try and keep further damage to a minimum...
