Title: Delta HPE HF oil cooler
Post by: GREENYORKIE on 16 April, 2022, 09:20:41 PM
I need a new oil cooler for my HPE HF Turbo. Ages spent trawling the web have drawn a blank. I know these cars are pretty rare in the UK but the cooler is also fitted to several Alfas, Dedras' and Fiat Marea Tempra and the PC Coupe.Has anyone sourced an aftermarket fitment or any advise?
David.

HEL performance do an integrale kit which I'm sure could be adapted to suit, lines and cooler on my Dedra seem very similar to my integrale.
They have a good name in the 'bike racing world, not a bad price at all for the kit, be worth a call to them if nothing else...

Thanks for the info. Kevin. That cooler is a good bit wider than the original so will need to see if there is room on my car. But where needs must!

Hi David

I'm sorry to hear that your oil cooler needs replacement.

I looked up the part no. (46469281) but have failed to find any actually for sale. Everywhere that lists them comes up as "out of stock" or similar. However, I would imagine there are places near you that repair radiators and intercoolers, assuming that yours is repairable of course.

Wishing you good luck.

Regards

Ian (6610)

Thanks for the info. Kevin. That cooler is a good bit wider than the original so will need to see if there is room on my car. But where needs must!

I was at my unit today, I could have measured my Dedra one for comparison if I'd have thought!
I know there are parts of that Delta that are similar to Dedra parts, but equally it could be way different. I can measure next weekend if needed.
As Ian says maybe it could be repairable?
My local radiator repairer also does intercoolers, an oil cooler is very similar to both really. So could be worth investigating.

Thanks for the input guys but my cooler is beyond repair (unless you have a magic wand) As you say Ian, that part no. is listed on loads of sites but when you click on them there's none available. There is one in Italy but the complications of customs duty etc. make me wary of going overseas, and the price was ludicrous anyway.I am looking for a suitable aftermarket one,new hoses wont be a problem,it's just making sense of different suppliers dimensioning as space is pretty tight.

Realised today, the Delta integrale one is nothing like the Dedra one, they go full width along the bottom of the radiator rather than in the bumper corner...hence why they are so long! Doh!!! ::)

Just an update for anyone following this thread and in a similar position to me. I finally sourced a suitable cooler, made by APS and supplied by Demon Tweeks. A 16 row cooler is a very good match for the original, needs one fixing hole modifying to mount on the original bracket.I sourced new pipe fittings and pipe from a local supplier. This exercise cost me some £160 which is a great saving on the few original coolers which are advertised on line but turn out to be unavailable.

That is a great price there, worth posting more details for those of us with Dedra turbos' due to their similarity
How did you get on with the fittings and pipes? Is it an easy size etc to get?
My pipes aren't in the best shape and undoubtedly would never come off the cooler without breaking it, so might look at doing it before the need becomes urgent and I have access...

More info for anyone interested. On the Demon Tweeks website look for APS oil coolers. Look for the 16row x 170mm wide unit. You now have a choice of pipe fittings. I took the cooler without fittings as I was renewing the hoses, so my local PIRTEK supplied the fittings and hose. The APS cooler is a good replacement for the original and just needs a fixing hole drilling in the bracket and a couple of pieces of rubber to act as vibration absorbers. If your pipes are in good condition they could be refitted, you will just need the correct fitting for the cooler.Your local PIRTEK depot should be able to supply. Hope this is useful.

Cheers for that , looks a decent price for the cooler.
I haven't a PIRTEK place near me but I know a place locally that does hydraulic lines, out of interest how much did the lines cost you?

The fittings are designed for very high pressures,1000psi,so expensive, Mine were £85.00. The pipe a tenner.
