Title: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: the.cern on 21 August, 2022, 08:05:42 AM My very tired and unloved Y10 must go as I am losing my storage space. It is a 'bringatrailer' item!!!
I have not used it for years, but it is complete and ran well when I did last use it. The photographs will give you a clue as to the state of it!! I believe it needs time rather than money to coax it back to life and if not, then its a complete car for spares!!! It would be a shame to see it go the local scrapyard, but that is my only other option!! So, if you are interested just contact me by message or 'phone. 07900 266985 Andy Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: frankxhv773t on 21 August, 2022, 02:20:09 PM Absence of visible rust on the rear quarters is an excellent sign and doors can be replaced. I have one that could be available and I suspect others are about. It would be a tragedy for this not to be saved and restored. Can I put something on the Y10 face-book page or would you put it on the LMC page and I can share it? I know there are people who say they are looking for a Y10 so doubt you'll have trouble finding a home for it. In extremis I will give it a home before it gets scrapped. (I have only exceedingly limited access to the forum so e-mail or face-book message are the ways to contact me.)

Whereabouts is it at? Not that I'm lookimg for another project! Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: lancianut666 on 21 August, 2022, 09:33:14 PM Looks in better nick than mine!

After a machine polish the paintwork looks quite respectable and the bumpers have some colour in them with multiple applications of trim gel. I have sorted out the first major problem - lack of keys, so it now has functioning ignition, door and boot locks, however the fuel filler is a different lock, so I am looking for a fuel cap with or without key, to get matched to the other locks. I think I will have to drill out the lock on the existing cap. I am in the process of replacing all the brake components, discs, drums, pads, shoes, hoses, seals. The rear damper bushes have been changed. Next on the list is the cam belt and bearing. It also needs new inner driveshaft boots, plus of course all fluids renewed. Before it ventures out on the road it will also need new tyres. The other problem area are the doors, both are very rusty at the bottom, so if anyone has a pair for sale they would be much appreciated. Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: frankxhv773t on 16 October, 2022, 05:03:21 PM Welcome to the Y10 world. There's a handy face book page for Y10s "Worldwide Lancia/Autobianchi Y10 fans" if you do that sort of thing. I have all sorts of bits and pieces from dismantled cars and happy to share if you need any bits. I don't think I have any fuel caps though unfortunately. I do have a sound driver's door.

Koen, you feel old, imagine how I feel after lying on my back on a gravel drive under a Y10. I thought my days of doing this sort of thing were over! To put things in perspective, my first car was a Fulvia, it was 6 years old when I bought it, I thought it was quite old then. Now I am working on a Y10, which to me is quite modern as I had a few back in the day, but actually it is 37 years old. If my first car had been 37 years old it would have been made in the 1940's!!!! Frank, I would be interested in the drivers door as this is the worst one on the car. I don't think I have seen that Facebook page, I will have a look for it. Please send me an email re the door. My email address is in the back of Viva Lancia under Aurelia advisor. It's actually my fourth Y10, so it brings back many memories! .......... worn rear damper mounts........ split inner driveshaft gaiters....... thankfully the fuel tank supporting straps are in good condition. And the radio cover stays up! Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: Sliding Pillar on 18 October, 2022, 05:07:25 PM The fuel filler cap is common to numerous Fiats, so I have sourced a new one on eBay, bargain at £13.45.
Drilling out the old lock took a while with a very big drill bit! Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: Spider2 on 06 November, 2022, 12:42:45 PM I love "bring it back to life" projects. Lucky lad he has a dad to do that for him. I hope he lent a hand and the car has enough street cred. I remember 20 years ago it had to be a Peugeot 205 to have enough cred for the youngsters to be seen in. In my day any car that worked was good enough!
Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: Kevinlincs on 06 November, 2022, 05:49:21 PM I'm loving the fact that this car got saved too, a year or two back I'd have been tempted enough to get it myself, was tempted enough twice with Y10's in recent years! Great little cars, but I am looking to slim down on cars not add to them.
In the spirit of giving away if anyone is near East Lincolnshire I came across a box of bits for the Y10 this wwekend. Nothing fantastic, a few bits and bobs, rear wiper motor, one rear light unit, one front headlamp (N/S from memory), a heater fan motor plus other bits and pieces. Nothing fancy but useful spares to a Y10 owner. There's also a drivers seat in useable order, a wheel or two also, probably a wheel trim. May have a grille in the shed too....but that could be for the S3 cars..headlamps too for S3 from memory too Come on over and take the lot for free. Not worth posting and tbh I'd want the seat to go too as I'm trying to make an effort to not keep stuff I'll never use, at least to save my lad sorting through it all if the worst happens! I have loads of stuff that would end up skipped as nobody would know what it is for, would rather it go to someone to make use of. Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: frankxhv773t on 07 November, 2022, 10:20:08 AM Next time I'm passing your way I'll clear you out of Y10 bits if you still have them as I seem to be a clearing house for supplying others needs, unless someone else fancies giving them house room before then.

No problem at all Frank, I did think of you first however I guessed it's all stuff you already have! But more than happy for it to go your way, not enough to be in my way so no rush. Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: Sliding Pillar on 26 December, 2022, 06:00:37 PM I thought it was about time I gave an update on the Y10 project. The 'free' bit in the title is now a bit of a misnomer as quite a bit has been spent on parts!
The engine runs very sweetly, its had new oil & filter, cam & auxiliary belt, plus bearing. The radiator fan sensor that came with the car has been fitted along with new antifreeze, just as well, it went down to -11C here the other week. I've replaced the inner driveshaft gaiters, drained and replaced the gearbox oil. The main area of work has been on the brakes, considering it's been off the road for 6 years and safety is a priority for a teenagers first car. The front flexi hoses were changed along with new discs, pads and rebuilt front calipers. At the back its had new drums, shoes and wheel cylinders. I don't think the rear flexi hose has ever been changed in 37 years. It's a horrible job because the hose goes through the rear suspension mount, so the suspension has to be dropped to get at the unions. While I was doing this it seemed prudent to replace the rear brake pipes as there were signs of corrosion where the pipes were clipped to the rear axle. The new damper bushes have also been fitted along with new wiper blades. The wheels had a lot of surface corrosion on them, so this was sanded back, treated, primed and painted. Then new tyres were fitted all round, I've gone for 155/70s mainly because they were cheaper than the original 135/80s. So the car is now back on the ground. I've got to collect a good S/H drivers door from Frank, but I am still looking for a rust free passenger door. The 'to do' list includes checking a few non-working bulbs and a tiny bit of corrosion on the N/S sill, but we are not that far from being ready for the MOT. Hopefully it will be back on the road in the New Year. Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: Sliding Pillar on 01 March, 2023, 10:29:03 AM The Y10 is now back on the road!!! It passed its MOT this morning, the tester commented on how solid and clean it was underneath. Only a very small advisory on the N/S headlamp that has a bit of condensation inside.
I was pleasantly surprised how well it goes as I haven't driven a Y10 for nearly 30 years. So another Y10 saved, taking the total number on the road in the UK to 12. Title: Re: Lancia Y10 - Free Post by: Delta James on 01 March, 2023, 05:43:49 PM Fantastic to see it saved and given a second life, Now for some nice weather and hit the roads and fully enjoy it 👌👍
