28 November will be the day for Lancia to announce its new range of electrified models for the future, but the Turin-based manufacturer has already offered a first glimpse of what is to come. In this journey between past and future, the protagonists are the Lancia cars that have entered the collective imagination: from the Aurelia to the Flaminia, from the Fulvia to the Beta HPE, from the Gamma to the Delta, from the Stratos to the 037. “The design and beauty of these masterpieces in motion inspired us in the creation of the three Lancia models of the future,” says Luca Napolitano, CEO of Lancia. “The new Ypsilon in 2024, the new flagship in 2026, which will allow us to enter the largest segment in Europe, and the new Delta with its geometric lines, sculpted and muscular, which in 2028 will make the hearts of many fans throughout Europe beat faster. The protagonists of the Lancia of the future were inspired by three stylistic elements typical of the brand: the goblet, sinuous lines and primitive geometric shapes. “Taking its cue from the front of the iconic Aurelia and Delta, the new chalice will be reinterpreted in a modern key, retaining its distinctive feature that stems from the union of a vertical line and a horizontal line that, when they meet, enclose the Lancia logo,” continues Napolitano. The second characterisation common to the three new models is the sinuous, descending line of the side, typical of certain historical models such as the Aurelia B20. Finally, the third design element manifests itself in the primitive geometric shapes present on both the front and rear, among which stand out the round headlights that hark back to the brand’s more brutal soul, winking at the legendary 037, Stratos and Delta, the racing ‘beasts’ that dominated rallying for over 20 years. Title: Re: lancia design day , november 28 Post by: nthomas1 on 28 November, 2022, 06:23:37 PM I was encouraged by today's presentation. I fall into the category of people who would sooner have seen the Lancia brand discontinued than be devalued as it was with the re-badging of some Chrysler cars. But now that Stellantis have decided to re-launch the brand I will give them my full support. I liked the "PuRa" design concept that they showed today, as I could relate it to the Riva powerboat inspiration that Castagnero allegedly took when he designed the Fulvia Coupe - so I have a nice DNA relationship there. I'm not suggesting that the designer had this in mind, but I can satisfy myself that I see a link to my car!
I also like the new badge. Sure, I prefer the classic Lancia badges of the past, but the target audience for Stellantis should not be the traditionalists and old-timers like me. Youngsters will hopefully appreciate the clean design and the futuristic lettering - which still gives a nod to the Lancia script of the past that we hold so dear. |
