I have engine management failure notice on the screen. Anyone experienced this? Where is the OB D socket and what connector is required. My local mechanic, who is fiat trained, pliugged his machine in to a socket in the fuse compartment under the steering wheel but did not get a reading.

Is it the JTD?
If so I've had loads of Alfas' with the diesel engine, still have in fact.
The 20v 5 pot used to be a sod for throwing a wobbly, 10v was much more tolerant.
Usually it was the EGR valve getting gummed up. They can be stripped and cleaned rather than replaced.
If not then the MAF gets dusty/dirty so can be cleaned.
MAP sensor sometimes, but I'd lay my bet on the EGR,
It should be the 16pin OBD2 plug which if the same as Alfa systems is within the fuse board under the steering column.
If it's teh petrol version though, I don't know ???

It is petrol. The check light and screen message has gone off again but it will probably come on again soon
The screen warning message came back, but I disconnected the battery for ten minutes which seems to have worked. The on board computer connection is in the fuse compartment below the steering wheel It is at the bottom left side and is a 3 pin connection so needs a convertor,
