Title: Parli Italiano?
Post by: HBG on 09 April, 2023, 06:52:27 AM
Still waiting for the car to be shipped. In the meantime I wonder if you can help me with this list. During purchase I received the list, some items being visible when I inspected the car. I don't think its an exhaustive list as many other items have been worked on recently, and some others I suspect will need further work for me to be satisfied.

Any help with accurate translation would be appreciated.

I think you’ll find that you can do this with Google Translate. Download the PDF then you can highlight the relevant text, and then press translate which you should be offered if you’re using an iPad or iPhone. It works quite well on my iPad so if you don’t get any success, I’ll see what I can do.

Thats the problem. Google does not have enough Lancia in its dictionary!!

From when a friend broke a spring in his Midget right outside the Ferrari factory I know that the italian for crossbow is what we call a leaf spring.  I had an Alfasud at the time, late 80s, and it made it to Rome but not much further.  AA 5* cover was an excellent investment.

Hi HBG, translation for you (attached), your Fulvia had a truly massive restoration of body and mechanicals: I hope it drives fine after all that. Andrea

Hi folks.

I did try Google translate but as above it didn't have enough technical content to help.

Andrea, I'll have a look at your translation now, am grateful for the time spent, thank you.

The car was restored 2 years and 1500kms ago and comes with this list and a load of photos but not much other paperwork. I've driven it and reckon it probably still needs a little fettling to make it as good as it can be.

The export and customs paperwork is pretty much complete and it should be collected and transported this week. When it will arrive I've no idea. The wait is agonising!

Ideally I'd like to compare it back to back with a known good example to make sure its right. Any others in North London/ Herts area?

Andrea, actually your list surprised me as it contains more detail than I thought, more items attended to. Although the photos do tell a story, this is enlightening.

I'll need to attend to under sealing and cavity waxing, seatbelts and maybe lighting before pressing it in to regular use. Then there will be the inevitable upgrades......

Howard

I can't remember where I found it, but at one time, I found a list of technical translations, Italian to English.
It was very useful. Does  anyone have a link?

Hi HGB, glad to help you. The Italian number plates indicate the car originating from Trieste, near where I live. If you send me more details, perhaps I might be able to get more history about this car. Do treat it very carefully with running-in the rebuilt mechanicals : the engine is rebored to the maximum diameter size of the cylinders. You will want that engine to last zillions of miles, Andrea

Google can do "cavi delle candele" as  "Spark plug wires" but just the word "cendele" is "candles", and a fulvia has four of those, but no fork handles.

Hi Andrea, what details would you need? The reg was 187401 TS as you can probably see. I'd be very happy to hear of any history, though not if this car has been made of two Fulvias!

The engine has done 1500km since rebuild, not sure if the head has been re-torqued. When it's here I think I'll change the oil and filter as a precaution. I've always used fully synthetic oil, Millers where possible, though not on new engines as they need to bed in a bit before maximum protection.

I'll have to get an owners manual and if possible some sort of 'Haynes' manual if such exists.

We stopped at Trieste on our way home last summer, lovely Aperol in the evening sun.

Do you know the name of the last owner? Car colour? Mk II coupe?
The booklet supplied by Lancia when the car was new carries a lot of useful info about servicing. There is no Fulvia Haynes manual. You can get CDs (in English) with the full manual from vivalancia.com and the LMC librarian can probably help you. Retorquing the head bolts is advisable and the valve clearance should be checked as well. I never use fully synthetic engine oil but I do change it (always with a new oil filter) every 12 months regardless of annual mileage. Andrea

It would also be interesting to know the name of the Italian workshop that did the mechanical work.
There is no name on the original document, posted by the OP.
Maybe the seller has the information?
Some workshops are well known, and can be recommended for the quality of their work.

I agree it's a shame some info has been blanked out, including the costs. Ideally I would have all of the history but ultimately I had to decide if it was a good car in a very limited amount of time. I'm no expert so had to make a judgement call - hope I made the right decision!
