As an alternative to fitting an overdrive I would be happy to fit a tourer ratio cw/p.  Have any ever been made - in Oz perhaps?  If I were to consider making up a batch, who would be interested and does anybody know a firm which could make them?

Rather than make standard 12:50 (4.2:1) crown wheel and pinion sets it might be worth making the 12:47 (3.9:1) sets  used in the Mille Miglia cars and on present roads you should not have any trouble pulling one of these.  Some were made in Italy back in the seventies but they were straight cut and relatively rough and noisy compared with the original spiral bevel though there are still people around with Gleason machines.  Les Keeling is also interested in pursuing this but we really need a 12:50 or 11:49 differential as a pattern.  Does anyone have one sitting under the bench?

I have a saloon ratio, slightly broken (tooth or so off the pinion) that would serve I think...
I like the idea of the higher ratio, how would this compare with the standard Torpedo plus overdrive?

It's actually a 12:50 so it says on the 16 tooth pinion anyway and is available as a pattern

I would be interested in a higher ratio crown wheel and pinion although |I dare say I would put it on the shelf initially. I have no doubt that barry Linger would make it as he used to do all the ERA cwp's we consumed. I can get in touch with him if we have a drawing.

I am now in the process of having sprial beval 3.9.1 ratio crown wheel and pinion sets made as we need a set for our Lamda. I will be having a minium of ten sets made and have so far had eight people show an interest.
If any one is interested please get in contact with either me or my son Ross and as soon as we have a firm number of orders will then get a firm price from the gear cutters, but they will be around £400 + vat for the set.
Please can you also let us know if the locking nuts and the special castle nut on the pinion are needed.

I have no managed to get some firm quotes for the crown wheel and pinion sets 12-47 3.91-1 ratio.  At present we have got orders for approximately 11 sets at a cost of £448.50.
If we get roughly another 4-6 orders the price will drop to £396.75 a set.
We will require a deposit to secure a order and estimated delivery times will be around 14-20 weeks approx.

Sorry for stiring up this long left alone topic!

I'm on the lookout for a 12/47 crownwheel and pinion set, but no luck so far.  So I wonder if someone has purchased a set at the time, never used it,  and would consider selling it.

I have been in contact with Guest Gear services, who made the sets discussed in this topic, and they can still supply, however prices are only economic if 10 sets are ordered (which is totally understandable off course and is by no means meant as critisism!)

But maybe there's a set unused on a shelf somewhere....

If you do find one, be aware that the holes in it will probably need to be enlarged to fit the 8th. Series car.
