Title: S2 Fuel and brake lines tips
Post by: cundyalex on 04 December, 2023, 11:06:58 PM
Greetings fellow Fulvia owners,

I'm a new member so just introducing myself. I ought to have joined a long time ago but better late than never! Don't want to clog the thread up but just a little background about my car..

I've had my 1972 1.3 Coupe since about '96 when I got it from my brother (who posted a lot here about his Fanalone). It looked OK but it was my daily driver, lived outside, did a lot of miles and became a bit of a basket case in the end, although I always looked after it well mechanically. It had a 1600 engine for the last couple of years and it always went and stopped well.

Before that I ran an S2 Berlina, which really was a super little car.

I took the Coupe off the road in 2003 to do a bit of work on the body and ended up (very) slowly doing the whole shell properly, with the help of my Dad. It was finally painted in Jan this year.

Anyway - to cut to the question - I know my way around most jobs on a Fulvia but I'm just about to start putting it all back together again and wondered if anyone had any tips about installing the main fuel/brake lines.

It's the sort of job that I can imagine not being obvously wrong until it's too late and then having to take half the car apart again.

Any help appreciated, I hope I can assist here too in due course and I look forward to letting you all know how quickly and smoothly the reassembly is progressing...!!

Thanks,
Alex

Hi A;ex

best advise is to get up close and personal with a series 2 coupe that has original lines in place.

Certainly worth looking at the Pieces Fulvia website. Lots of good photos and diagrams of the brake system parts which may well help you.

I have found their service to be top class, incredibly fast and very reasonably priced.

Depends what you do with it - mine (an S1) has lines inside which is a good idea for me ( not that I did it)  for intended use on HRCR events.

here is a pic I took of the fuel lines before stripping the car (original I presume).
I obviously wasn't careful enough when installing the new lines and the thick line wore through on the rear gearbox mount. The gap between the mount and the body looked fine, but obviously not when the car is running. I cut the the line to the rear of the mount, flared the end of the pipe and replaced it with a rubber hose to the fuel pump. I made sure that it is now out of the way.
