Title: Flexible coupling on steering column
Post by: Nigel1967 on 22 February, 2024, 09:46:14 AM
Hello all... i have noticed the flexible coupling on my steering column in the engine bay was looking past its best so bought a new one.
My car doesn't have the horn or headlamp flasher to disconnect but looking at the diagram it looks more complicated to replace than simply removing the 4 bolts that secure it and sliding out the old one and replacing with the new. Has anybody ever changed theirs?
Many thanks
Nigel.

I have, but it was a few years ago and can't remember exactly how. The bolts were tricky to get to, but do-able. The main issue was making sure the pin marked in the link below with the yellow paint was all intact. Also replacing it with as decent a quality coupling as you can find. I managed to get a spare mercedes one that's an exact match, but infinitely better quality than some of the fibre ones off ebay. Good luck

ah i see now.. thanks very much.
I thought the fibre disc was the only connection between the two halves of the column.. clearly not the case and looks like you need to remove a lot more than i thought.
Maybe i'll keep the new one ive got and ask somebody to "pop it in" when it goes to the garage next.
Thanks again
Best
Nigel.
