Title: Electronic ignition Post by: davidwheeler on 28 March, 2024, 09:43:04 AM My 1600 Sport came with Allison(/Fireball) XR700 electronic ignition which uses a light beam and rotating shutter sort of setup. which has now died. I would be happy to go back to points but the mountings for points are missing. Has anybody fitted a points free electronic system that I could now buy? I see some on EBay but they are all for modernish cars and I do not know if they would fit the Marelli distributor.
Title: Re: Electronic ignition Post by: Simon B on 28 March, 2024, 10:21:26 AM David, try Powerspark, they do a simple system for the 1.3 distributor and I’m sure they will have a solution for the 1.6 I fitted my rebuilt distributor yesterday and have yet to go for a run, it’s not a Powerspark unit but it’s essentially the same, purchased in Italy last year.
Title: Re: Electronic ignition Post by: lancialulu on 28 March, 2024, 11:09:30 AM I use Luminition optical system on my 1600. It requires fitting a "chopper" under the advance . Maybe you can fit a Luminition setup.
See https://autocar-electrical.co.uk/images/pdf/pdf_optronic/fitting_kits/FK730-installation.pdf From memory this Lada (!!!) uses same or similar Marelli style distributor to the 1600. The 1300 is a different set up with FK720 Use a PMA60 detector and standard Luminition electronics pack. I have these on my Fulvias and have found them very reliable (The electronic box needs a really goo chassis contact.... I also have recently tried Powerspark on another car (TR6) and cannot fault it (complete distributor for £80 new). Title: Re: Electronic ignition Post by: davidwheeler on 29 March, 2024, 02:07:23 PM Trouble with Lumenition is that the pack is £300! Powerspark "Fits any Magneti Marelli distributor" nd looks as if it will do the job so I shall try that.

Lumenition pack £40-£70 on bayTitle: Re: Electronic ignition Post by: Brian Long on 30 March, 2024, 03:02:37 AM I have fitted a Pertronics contactless device to my Flavia. Works very well and is completely hidden within the distributor i.e. no external box, etc. Only thing to be wary off is not to leave the ignition turned on for a long time without starting the engine otherwise it will be cooked. I am in negotiation with them and am looking to get something like Simon's. I will keep you posted.
Lumenition packs are of the order of £300 so I am not going that route. I think my ignition pack is a Lumenition by an older name anyway. |
