Title: Gearbox mount
Post by: Wangler on 02 April, 2024, 07:37:38 AM
Please can anyone tell me why the holes for the upper gearbox mount as per the attached photo are so much larger than the M8 bolts that lock everything into place?

Its to provide lateral and longitudinal positioning of the central gearbox mount to (try) to ensure correct longitudinal orientation of the gearbox. A Fulvia gearbox should be central in the subframe. S2 output shafts are particularly sensitive to this and would lead to the M6 bolts snapping.

What a helpful answer, thank you.

I knew there must be a sensible reason. Now I know that, I'll be careful not to re-align the thing and will simply use the position (which you can see is slightly off-centre) it was when I released the bolts. I have no reason to think that wasn't correct.
