Title: Tour de France & Gino Bartali
Post by: simonandjuliet on 02 July, 2024, 02:56:45 PM
With the "Tour" going on at the moment - and being in Italy, there has been quite a lot of chat about an amazing character called Gino Bartali who won the Tour twice, before and after WW2

I was reading a bit about him and came across this photo - taken in 1946 on the Giro d'Italia ( not TdF !)

What are the cars ? First 3 are Lancias , I think ???

Agree that he was an amazing character. It came out only a few years ago that during the war he used to cycle hundreds of miles (supposedly training on his bike) to transport hidden documents to help jewish people escape from their nazi hunters.

Im sure there was an article in Viva Lancia with a special model Lancia - possibly Aprilia?
Sorry cant remember which edition this was
