Title: Appia Zagato auction today
Post by: williamcorke on 23 August, 2024, 07:44:08 AM
And talking of Appias for sale, how about this one up for auction this afternoon. I hope whoever buys it is both a member here and preservation minded.

The estimate looks low to me; we'll see!

If I thought I could buy it for £28,000 I'd sell a kidney...perhaps a 1 in front of the £19,500? As Mike Brewer would say "When was the last time you saw one of these?"

Well, yes and know. The question is "what is a beat to heck Appia Sport worth?". Especially with no shots of the underside. Rust all over the engine bay (even on hood supports) are not encouraging, but who knows? Maybe it's a diamond in the rough, and cheap. But be prepared...

I think fully restored it would be worth a fair bit, I wonder if the engine has been tuned?

The problem with that car it is not the most desirable Appia Zagato.
The Appias sport is the car to have. https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1555027

The cost to restore that car with a complex aluminium body mounted on a steel
platform chassis with all electrolytic corrosion  is probably going to be a lot of money.

I have driven a few and IMHO there not that nice , visability is poor the handling is no better than
the berlina. The sport is the best to drive with the shorter wheel base. Even better with the tuning mods hot cams and the bucket seats
with the carbs poking into the front wings.

Will is correct in his assessment. DTR in Coulsdon have one in their workshop, selling on behalf of the owner. It looks great but there are signs of electrolitic corrosion. A new owner would either have to spend a vaste amount sorting it out or simply leave as is and enjoy the car. It all depends what you want from the car; An objet d'art or a classic to drive and have fun

Fingers crossed both cars are sound enough to use and will soon be spotted (and heard!!) in action.
