Title: Ardea starting handle
Post by: MarcY88 on 29 December, 2024, 06:29:17 PM
Does anyone have any information as to where an Ardea starting handle may be sourced please? I have tried various handles from other cars and none fit. If anyone can post dimensions of an original, sketch showing main shaft length position and shape of lugs etc then that may assist the search as I might be able to identify a Lancia starting handle (or one that would work) from some of the general "vintage" ones that appear online from time to time. I have even been wondering whether an MGA (similar era) would work as these are generally available remanufactured!
Alternatively, I have a good engineer friend who I could ask to bend an appropriate length of steel rod!
BTW I am also looking for a starting handle for my Appia Furgoncino!
Many thanks.
Marc

Send me a sketch. I have a number of unidentified Lancia starting handles, it would be a stretch to assume any of them are Ardea, but also stupid to dismiss the idea!

If its anything like an Aurelia starting handle its a fairly simple DIY job assuming you have dimensions as its a steel rod bent into a 'handle' shape at one end and at the other end a steel pin is inserted through end of the rod about 20mm from the end..

With luck there should be attached two photos with the dimensions of the starting handle for my Ardea. It is simply made from a piece of 14mm steel rod with a 1/4” pin through the end

And another photo which somehow wasn’t attached to the last post

Thank you for all the replies. Sorry hadn’t acknowledged sooner but pressing non-car matters got in the way!
I think that fabricating a handle is the best option - it seems quite straight forward.
I think I have also sourced a new switch for the starter which I am sure is the reason for the problem of the starter not working on a regular basis.
