Title: History of Appia Zagato KGH471A - help please?
Post by: chriswgawne on 07 February, 2025, 07:23:50 AM
An Italian friend of mine has an Appia Zagato project last registered in the UK as KGH471A with the V5 showing the owner as Michael Silverleaf, London SE17 3JS. The previous owner was Malcolm Clayden of Kingston, Surrey.
My friend has no history of the car prior to its first registration in the UK on 20.03.89 and consequently he cant get it registered in Italy.
Would anyone happen to know anything about this car....and in particular its original Italian registration number?
Chris

Can you look at old LMC members registers?

I have a private letter dated 2nd November 1992 which includes this Appia and my own Flaminia amongst numerous other Lancias.  If the current owner would like to add a copy of  this to his file, I can be contacted directly at my usual email address richardfridd1@hotmail.com.

If you google Michael Silverleaf -presumably the same person - hes still practising as a KC.
Not that SE17 was Barry Waterhouse's patch in the 80s?

I have looked in the members register for 1985, 1991, 2000 and 2017, I did find Mr AM Silverleaf in Camberwell SE8, no Claydens listed, in car listing sections  in the 2000 & 2017 by model with registrations and that particular plate is not listed in the Appias.  Perhaps the Appia experts might have some more details?

There is a bit of history if you google the number plate. Particularly Monaco auction 2010 when it was sold in the new (lurid) green colour.

"Wonderful condition". Has this description stood the test of time as it is probably not a car which has been allowed to deteriorate?

In Italy rules to register classic cars have been overhauled and it is perfectly possible to register a car like the Appia Zag of your friend. This is done with the chassis number and the help of a bonafide classic car club. Furthermore, there are agencies that for a fee can assist to find out the car history and to register it. Their addresses are found in the ad section of classic car mags su1ch as RuoteClassiche. Thus, there is no need to despair!

Chris,  I have been able to find the Italian registration when it came to the UK, once I had got the chassis number from the Bonhams sale.

Very fortunate that I was able to do this.  But then I don't chuck Lancia records away!

Sent the details to you personally in an email.
