If you can't easily turn it I suspect someone may have put a drop of glue to hold it tight. Hopefully - assuming you've got a strong grip and that someone hasn't put some really mad strong glue up there - you can 'snap' the glue seal! Title: Re: S3 gearknob Post by: Neil Lewis on 08 June, 2009, 10:45:36 PM The problem I had taking the knob off my Series three was that the gear lever is in two parts. The chrome top is fitted to the gear change rod via a nylon bush. Turning the knob just turned the whole shaft on the lower part. So you'll need to hold the lower bit firmly as well as gripping the knob above.
By the way, I presume your knob is a wooden turned part with a varnish finish. If it is anything else, it is probably an after-market knob and may be fixed in some other way than just screwed on. Looks like I will have to take the stick off and grip the bottom end in a vice. I suppose I could just sand it down and re-varnish but I have a spare aluminium one that I think will look better.
