The race in question is the 1956 Belgian grand prix in which he drove the Lancia-Ferrari D50 and achieved a podium position.

Can you imagine Coulthard turning up to a Grand Prix in his present capacity as reporter, and being asked by McLaran to try out thier car, then he finishes 2nd, and says, 'Well that was really nice, but I think I'll stick to reporting'
