What a beauty!!   Not sure I could convince the rest of the family...  A looong time ago I had a fantisy of some such truck as a race transporter.  These days driving a Lancia as far as the post box is the dream I hang on to.

As for you Chugga - this is the place to store the other ones  ;D

How about a cooperative of the afflicted to buy this for posterity? I have nowhere to keep it or any ability in commercial vehicle engineering, but I'd be happy to contribute a small amount to a rescue fund. What a way to arrive at Auto Italia.....

An LMC hospitality unit perhaps, I'm thinking small bar, coffee machine, paninis etc

Good call, I would how much publiciy/raising of the clubs profile this would generate compared to the 'book'. I think the idea of a mobile publicity/hospitality vehicle at events round the country inspired.

It does look very interesting BUT...... although it would be possible to tax it as a Historic vehicle so it wouldn't cost any thing to tax there is the problem of storage and the other thing everyone seems to overlook you will need an HGV licence to drive it as it would be rated at probably 24,000kg.  There is light at the end of the tunnel however, I just might know a Club member with the required HGV licence............ me!!

I'd agree ... a real asset for the club and would be great for transporting the kit, somewhere to shelter when it rains and given a catering (bar!!!) licence, a way to make money at events.

Guess it'd also be able to act as a mobile spares unit too ....

It's slow enough having a truck speed limited to 56MPH, I don't think I would want to drive all over Europe in an Esagamma whose top speed is 45MPH!!!! (and I doubt if the fuel consumption is much better than 7mpg)

A friend ??? has suggested I buy it and use it as a garage for "Fay" instead of my lock up and use the other half as my home, problem is I have nowhere to park it :'(

It also sounds like one that I believe Richard Nixon in Ireland owned that John Brain had been working on for him, I've emailed John today and waiting his reply.
Would make a great Motorhome though ;D

What's a "Chinese Six" configuration? Sounds like it could be a bit racist!

It means that his has two steering axles at the front and a single fixed axle at the rear. I have no idea why it's called "Chinese Six" however!

It was in Essex last time - now it's in Stafford. Maybe it was been sold and is being flipped.

I used to drive them back in the late 1950's for BRS, the 4 wheels at the front all steered.

As I had noted previously it sounded like the one I knew Richard Dixon in Ireland owned, I see he is now given as the contact, very nice fella and a Lancisti to boot ;D

Found this explanation of the name and I would certainly agree with the comment about 6's in a straight line.

This to my knowledge is accurate. Back then the "wrong" way of doing things was the "chinese" way . They just looked wrong with 2 axles at the front and 1 at the rear? My view is that perhaps they were trying to get away from the tendancy of the conventional sixes to go in a straight line,no matter what you did with the wheel!

This Essagamma has a conventional steering front axle, then at the back the middle axle has twin wheels (this is the driven axle) the rear most axle is a self steering axle with single wheels. A lot of Lancias lorrys were converted with extra axles which increased their payload as they had ample power to cope with larger loads.

Here's the pic from Ebay of the Esagamma and one of an Esadelta where you can clearly see the twin driven axle in the middle with the self steer axle at the rear.

This is the one that did not sell on E Bay recently, i was umming and arring about buying it, but sense stopped me,(does'nt usally) :) i spoke to the guy who had it listed on E Bay and he told me that the owner would probably let it go for around 2 grand.
