After this wekend I think the answer is a definite yes, however you need to get a bit of assistance, far too much to do on your own.

Have just attended the Silverstone Classic media day and its going to be a great weekend. Eight hundred race cars and a thousand drivers. Off track there are 50 year celebrations for the Jaguar E Type, hopeful of a thousand examples, and the MG Midget and Porsche Owners Club, also hoping to get a thousand cars together. Sunday will also feature Picnic In The Park where families are encouraged to watch the racing on large screens while munching their sandwiches to the sounds of a one hundred piece live orchestra in the background. Racing will include Group C so the Lancia LC2 should make an appearance. For those not wanting culture there will be three live tribute bands, The Stones, Ten CC and one other that for the life of me I cant remember but they must be good because Louise Goodman told me so. There will be the usual air display with Spitfire and Mustang, hot air ballons and parachuters. The annual lawn mower Grand Prix will take place, the new pit building will be open for business and a fleet of Routemaster buses will ferry spectators around. Thats about it except, be careful when buying tickets. Advance for Friday, usually a qualifying day is a hefty £35, and children under sixteen have to pay £5 per day. Full details at the website. Lastly, the organisers gave me four laps around the circuit in a race Alfa so they can do no wrong.

Hang on, there is a special discount 2 for 1 offer if you buy via the LMC special code so DON"T just go to the website and buy tickets.
Using the LMC code is also the ONLY way you will be able to bring your lovely Lancia onto our club display as you also get a car pass included.
Full details coming.

But Peter is absolutely correct that it is going to be a great weekend (it always is) with lots to do and see.

Martin.

July 22nd, 23rd and 24th.

This is one of the best events of the year and you can have your Lancia parked right in the middle of it! Three days of world class historic motorsport, car clubs, autojumble, spares, models and interesting stuff.

What was some years ago the Coys Historic event became the Silverstone Classic and is now probably better than it ever was, lots of details at www.silverstoneclassic.com or put silverstone classic into You Tube and have a look.

We have had a good display there for the last couple of years but this year we want to make it much bigger and better, and a focus for meeting up with other members.

The ONLY way of getting your car into our Club display area is to book admission tickets via the website above or tel 0871 231 0849, you must also quote the special code C11116 ('C', four x 'one', 'six') which will ensure you get a vehicle pass for the track centre display area.

HURRY, HURRY, HURRY.  The cut off date for reduced price tickets and a display pass is end of June, so you must book now.

It would be very useful if you could let me know what car you are bringing and on which days so that we can make the best display each day.

Martin Dowling.

CHANGE OF CODE.

The CORRECT code for buying tickets is C11116 ('C', four x 'one', 'six').

Sorry for any confusion.

Details of camping are also included once you get into the system via the code.

Martin.

Hello All,

HURRY, HURRY, HURRY, last chance to get cheap tickets.

The 2 for 1 ticket offer ends in a few days on 30th June and buying those tickets through the LMC club offer code is the ONLY way to get a pass for your Lancia to be included in the LMC display area in the circuit infield.

Book here quoting the LMC Club code C11116;

http://silverstoneclassic.com/tickets/

Or by phone 0871 231 0849 also quoting the LMC Club code.

Please tell all your LMC friends too!

Regards,

Martin Dowling.

Anyone want to share a 2 for 1 with me? Planning to take the Hyena on Saturday but going alone as Mrs Hyena does not wish to attend.

I have now bought the 2 for 1 ticket for Silverstone on the Saturday as that's the only way I could get the Hyena into the club enclosure! So if anyone wants a ticket for £25 (normal day ticket price = £48.60!) let me know!
Mark

Looking forward to tomorrow (Saturday)

What time are people aiming to be there for?

Was thinking 9.30 to 10am as I cannot see any particular restrictions on vehicle movements on the infield.

Always gone on the Friday for the last couple of years and I guess its a lot quieter than the Saturday.

First race nine o'clock. There will be a queue from 08.30 until 10.00. No easy choice. Personally I aim to arrive at  eleven'sh.  It's going to be a long day with arguably the best racing in the evening session. Whatever, the weather looks ok so just relax and have a good time.

Martin, thanks for organising,

I had a great day on Saturday. Getting into the circuit was slow mainly because a large number of e-types oveheating and blocking the way.

Favorite grid was the historic F1, they looked very scary machines indeed.

Brilliant sign of the times that the sponsors were mainly beer and fags plus Penthouse and Durex!

The pre 66 GT cars were fabulous too and what a big grid. Unfortunately, i had to leave before the Group C stuff so missed the Lancia.

Our cars attracted alot of attention. A small number of interesting and rare cars is probably our USP when trying to get a decent spot at these types of events. After all did anyone bother to walk through the huge field of largely uninteresting Porsches? I thought we were a bit out on a limb at first but there was plenty of through traffic and it was interesting to note the real affection for Lancia from "car people".

Nice to meet everyone.

Thanks once again Martin.

Andy

Andy, that was the comment I made to Richard ... we are not just a number , I did walk through the Porsches to get to the trackside but otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Mine was the ONLY integrale there on Sunday.

Thanks Martin for organising and it is just a great event. I don't think that being there for two days I saw everything (wanted to see the drag racing and lawn mower racing). The camping worked well and Jamie Oliver's place is the one for the food. I also got to see Suzi Q in the evening after the group C which, has to be said, with the darkness coming on and their lights on was just fantastic.

I have never seen so many e-types ever. It was unbelievable! It truly is a great car show with historic motorsport too.

Oh, and the 'parade' lap was good fun too ... it is a fabulous circuit and a very good design with the two pits being able to split it into two race circuits.

My top tips would be:
a) get there for 8am - done that twice, never queued.
b) bring a bicycle as you can't get between the pits on foot and the buses get quite full and the queue back looked long*

*I don't understand why but you can't walk** between the pits but if you have a bike*** then you are allowed through ...
** Well, you can walk but it's a long way (which was fine as we didn't mind walking and watching)
*** a brompton will go into an quattro boot

Sad to have missed this - was visiting relatives in Midlands yesterday so drove back on M6 and M1 around 5pm - never seen so many E-types and VW campers on the motorways.

Sad to see an overheated Merak and Kayalami (stuck in the 15 miles of southbound M1 roadworks from Milton Keynes to Luton doing nothing to help traffic flow sadly!) as well as a Beetle and a Mini all waiting for the two trucks.  Slow moving traffic and 25 degrees are not the best combo.

a very big and good all round event.thanks Mark for the unique and unexpected chance to ride in your Hyena-that does not happen everyday!the flavia sedan in the LMC area looked rather impressive.thanks Martin for organising the modest lancia display [when compared to the ferrari/porsche/e type displays- the quality of which was dilluted by the number of cars present[thousands between them?]i was rather interested in the ferrari [250/330?]which was in 'barnfind' condition.thanks Mark for the saturday ticket and thanks silverstone for the complimentry friday ticket which i was given at the gate by one of your ticket ladies.best regards richard

Yes indeed, a fantastic event.
And to see 2 LC2s on track together for the Group C races (admittedly only 1 in Martini colours, the other being the ex-Mussato car in red) was superb. The first time since 1985 and they were at Silverstone that year for the 1000klms. I know, I went to it.
There were several comments over the PA about its good looks.
(The C11 Mercedes and XJR9 Jaguar also sounded glorious.)

Thanks to Steve for the transport there and back, Martin for his continued enthusiasm for this event and those of you who came and supported it and LANCIA.

If you're remotely interested in Motorsport, you have to go. Even if you're not, you still have to go. A bit like Le Mans; it's a great experience.
The HSCC Big Engine Touring Cars (Mustangs, Falcons, etc.) were hugely entertaining. The 50 (yes 50!) car grid for the World Sports Car Masters was a sight to behold and hear. The Grand Prix Masters (ex-F1 cars). etc. etc. And Group C of course.

Roll on next year!

Well I was there all day Sunday and couldn't find you! I looked everywhere, I found the Stratos Enthusiasts club, Alfa owners club, the Italian car club but no LMC!  >:( My son was working for one of the race teams and during a break rode round the whole place on the pit bike looking and said he found about three Lancia's with a LMC flag tucked out of the way so not worth going over, what's going on? this is a real classic car weekend and should be full of Aurelia's, Appia's, Flavia's, Fulvia's and so on, so why when club Lanciasport put on a show, they have more cars and better presence? is it that they show up at more popular events or they are more enthusiastic about their cars? to me this was by far the most popular event i've been to this year but with the least Lancia's, sad but very true  :-[

I'd have preferred to be on the grass too but we were next to Aston Martin and right next to the old pits so (and I think others would agree) that there was actually a lot of footfall past the cars (if you visited the national pits then it was on the way out) so on balance it wasn't so bad a place as might be thought.
That said it was quite hard to find when we turned up in the morning!
But, I'd also say that the number of e-types must have caused everything to shift around - so it may be only this year that it'd be like this. The other consideration (I suppose) is that the new track layout means that there is much more grassy area near the bridge available ... but the steam engines also removed other space ....

If your son rode around at Sunday lunchtime then there would've been 4 Lancias out on track ! :)

PS. Anniversarys for 2012 ?

I don't understand either! The weather was simply fabulous on Sunday, surely the day most folks would choose to go.
It isn't just Motorsport. Car and Bike Clubs everywhere. Air displays. Live music. Fun fair. Automobilia. The list goes on.

Dave. All shots of the LC2s gratefully received. My compact just couldn't cope!

Ciao!

As it happens I couldn't make it this year, but I would have been there if I could have, although I've attended the previous two, with last years 15 minutes of track time on the sunday being very memorable, but I would have thought the cost was a turn off for some, and not everyone's 'cup of tea' for another.
