Title: Fulvia series 1 fuel sender problems
Post by: zagatoman on 02 May, 2010, 01:51:27 PM
Is anyone able to help me on fixing my fuel gauge or sender unit on my series 1 Fulvia?

After having completed renovating my Fulvia the only thing I cant get sorted is the fuel gauge.

I have two wires that go from the fuel gage on the dashboard then to the sender, I have no movement on the clock although I have plenty of fuel in the tank. I have earthed each wire at the tank end, one eliminates the warning light the other moves the fuel clock to show full so I presume the clock is fine.

How do I test a fuel sender unit on a Lancia Fulvia series 1?

Is the sender the same on all series Fulvias?

Do I have to earth the tank?

Am I right in thinking the gauge is fine?

Paul

Have you taken the sender unit out and checked it moves and works?

I've got loads of photos of it if you need.

Hi Neil

Will be taking out tomorrow. If it all looks fine and moves but still will not register on the gauge is the sender at fault or do I have to do something else?

Should I run an earth from the tank?

Paul

This was the state of my sender (S1 also). As you can see it was completely corroded up. I took it to bits, cleaned and de-scaled it then re-assembled it. The other thing is to check that the float doesn't have a hole in it.

The circuit should be earthed via the fixings and the tank. Check it with a multimeter.

Hi Neil, all sorted now.

You were right about giving it a good clean, now works perfectly.

Thanks for your advice.
