Title: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: lee69 on 12 May, 2010, 09:32:27 PM One day maybe....
Do you think we could borrow it for the NEC show? http://www.prewarcar.com/classifieds/ad43401-2.html Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: rogerelias on 12 May, 2010, 09:47:35 PM Very nice, but for that money i would rather buy a nice house with a workshop. which i would keep a B20 in. :o
Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: ColinMarr on 12 May, 2010, 10:18:12 PM The funny thing is that Astura was once owned by an LMC member by the name of Michael Scott who in the 1960s had the car restored by PininFarinia and it was subsequently sold on to Eric Clapton.
Michael Scott is very much still around and is about to have his life-membership of the LMC recognised and reactivated so that we all might enjoy more recent things that he has been up to. Colin Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: Sliding Pillar on 13 May, 2010, 07:08:43 AM Michael Scott's article on the restoration of this car is in the Summer 1966 copy of the LMC Journal. ( I will see if I can scan it so you can all read it)
Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: DavidLaver on 13 May, 2010, 08:00:59 AM FABULOUS!! A really lovely "grown up" car in contrast to most one-offs. Now the mystery...why does the passenger door have TWO window winders??? David Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: thecolonel on 13 May, 2010, 10:23:36 AM One for the windscreen perhaps.
Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: Kevin MacBride on 13 May, 2010, 11:58:00 AM Lovely car. The window winder is obviously typical Lancia over-engineering. One handle winds the window down, and the other... up...!

Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: fay66 on 14 May, 2010, 01:22:32 AM Here's the article from the Summer 1966 LMC Journal. I think it has two window winders because the door windows are actually in two parts, a large front section, then a smaller rear section. Thanks Colin, What a great story. and what an offer ;D Brian 8227 8) Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: GG on 14 May, 2010, 02:22:46 AM not sure why Pininfarina de-accessioned it from their collection. Does anyone know the story?
Sort of sorry to see it making the commercial rounds - such a wonderful car. Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: SanRemo78 on 14 May, 2010, 12:41:01 PM I think that there was an article on this car in Classic adn Sportscar in the last year or so?
Guy Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: DavidLaver on 14 May, 2010, 01:05:00 PM Its swings and rounderbouts... If it wasn't out in the commercial world I wouldn't have got to hear about it, and magasine articles tend to preview auction appearances as well. However its such a wonderful object and to me that museum IS the right place to look after it. David Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: ColinMarr on 14 May, 2010, 09:01:01 PM Brian,
It’s not me to thank for the article – it was posted by Sliding Pillar. And I am grateful for it too! GG, I don’t think this car was ever ‘de-accessioned’ by PininFarina – it’s just that it was in private hands, as most of these cars would have been in that period and it went back into private ownership. But isn’t it a good story! Colin Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: fay66 on 15 May, 2010, 12:51:30 AM Brian, It’s not me to thank for the article – it was posted by Sliding Pillar. I'm sure it has to be the same car.
Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: fay66 on 18 May, 2010, 12:56:19 AM Pretty sure that's the same garage where I looked at a Marandaz Special back about 1956/7.

Alfa Romeo 6C 4 seat tourer £385 Bugatti Type 57 Coupe £1,225 Lambda 7th series saloon £215 Vauxhall 30/98 £440 Bentley 4 1/2 £250 Bugatti Type 37 £395 Maserati 3litre ex-Bira £1,325 and...... Supercharged 2.6 litre Alfa Romeo Zagato 2 seater. Only a poet should be allowed to draw a word-picture of this Italian creation. Being mundane motoring enthusiasts we wouldn't like to attempt it, and it isn't very often that our advertising department is at a loss for words! Briefly: Appearence - Sheer beauty by any standards. Performance - highly exciting. Condition - throughout virtually beyond reproach. Price - Prohibitive. Redeeming feature - £10 tax. Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: DavidLaver on 21 May, 2010, 09:30:59 AM Looking at the T37 that's nearly ten grand's worth for a 30 year old car. Who'd pay that kind of money today for something that out of date? Errmmm - know anyone with a decent Integrale? David Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: GG on 21 May, 2010, 10:58:12 AM One of each or....any of the above?

The ex Michael Scott Astura with tipo Bocca cabriolet coachwork by Pinin Farina was offered at the Pebble Beach auction of Gooding & Co, on August 15th, 2010. It is car 33-3277 with engine 41208 It did not sell. The estimate was US$ 450.000 - 550.000 It is now again for sale at Hyman, in St Louis (the dealer where it came from). Asking price is US$ 550.000. There are some quite nice detailled photographs: http://www.hymanltd.com/search/details.asp?stockno=4093&suffix=12&recordcount=2# They show a well done, older restauration. Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: DavidLaver on 23 August, 2010, 10:12:51 AM ...Tupolev anyone? http://www.hymanltd.com/search/Details.asp?stockno=4178&recordCount=64 Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: GG on 24 August, 2010, 10:39:19 AM That Tupolev is just too much. Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: Neil on 03 October, 2014, 08:59:31 AM Richard, interesting... I wonder where the car was in Oatlands, which is just up the road from me, a long time ago doubt there is any other treasure there now.
Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: the.cern on 03 October, 2014, 07:24:50 PM I have only just read the start of this thread ....
Price's garage was just up the road from me, all of half a mile, Doug Price helped me with the B20 carburettor when I was having trouble in the mid seventies. He used to do all the routine servicing for my in-laws .... I never saw anything of interest at that time. I understand he used to 'do a bit of racing' , but no-one ever came up with any detail. The garage is long gone and I thing it is now a computer servicing/repair enterprise. Andy Title: Re: Astura Bocca for sale in US Post by: chriswgawne on 04 October, 2014, 10:00:52 AM Back in the early 70's which was before my Aurelia interest really developed, I was taken to several different lock-up garages in the Weybridge area by a friend where there were all sorts of Aurelia and pre-Aurelia goodies - parts and cars - stored by different Lancia owners. the garages are long gone and all I ever acquired was 2 sets of B20 tinted glass in the 80's and then Jacky's B24S Convertible in the 90's. I am not quite sure why there was such a density of lancias in that area - it cant have all been because of Tony Brooks.
As a complete aside, stored in the lock up garage in Stoke on Trent alongside our B20 which we bought in 1978 and still have was an Auto Union racing car. Sworn to secrecy by the vendor and needless to say the garage is long gone. Not really sure what it was or where it ended up. Chris |
