could someone remind me of the pressure at which the oil pressure relief starts to open on a 1300 fulvia.i have 75psi in my mind but my cars mecanical guage is reading higher as is the standard guage even at 3000 rpm.i will inspect the valve before further use.i have 20/50 oil so i should get something thinner for gentle use in cool weather.i did read that oil post recently regarding start up temps and suitable oils with interest although i have used 20/50 in the past with no probs touch wood.advice welcome on that relief valve.at least it is accessable.best regards richard

70 psi is I think about right but if oil is cold then you will not release the excess through the relief valve.

Have you measured when "hot"??

thanks Tim,i have checked the valve which seems ok.as i have a super efficient rad i will try blanking it partially now that the cooler weather is here.best regards richard

Oil rad?? This should also be thermostatically controlled. If water Rad are you saying you are not getting the oil hot. I would find that odd. My oil pressure goes to normal before full operating temperature as per my oil temp gauge. Generally with oil hot even a tight/new engine will still drop presure on a fulvia below 2000rpm.

i have tried some cardboard infront of the uprated water radiator which has got the water to 160F and the oil pressure is between 20-70 psi.[no oil cooler fitted]and the engine seems to be running more happily now.thanks richard

I think you can get them for S2's as well.

The one for my 2c came from Martin Willums in the Netherlands, he also had them for series 2 Berlina, in Holland they are known as "Bras". ::)

that is the where the fresh air intake is situated to supply the 'airconditioning' for the cabin.until last week my  sedan had a similar fresh air solution but nearer the drivers feet.ok now thanks to some MIG work

thank you Brian,next job is to replace the front wings as i have had the good fortune of collecting a brand new pair this morning complete with inner wheelarches [in factory primer with original sticky labels still attached and with 'Gerrish' written in marker pen]a lovely find!best regards richard

on the subject of the 'bra' the previous owner has kindly offered me a second hand one in white pvc for my s2 sedan which he has surplus to requirement.best regards richard
