Some great cars rallying (not just Lancias!) ... I've spotted some pics on flickr if anyone's interested ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/si558/sets/72157626719041866/with/5723540592/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/si558/sets/72157626719041866/with/5723540592/) The owner of the 037 Rally that was there let me sit in the car! Made my day! If I could only have figured out how to hot-wire it! ;) Good turn out of 'static' Lancias too including a very authentic looking S4 replica. Title: Re: RallyDay Cornbury 14/15 May Post by: peterbaker on 16 May, 2011, 10:59:52 AM It was good to see so many Lancias in action with Stratos and integral on stage with twenty more cars doing the three demo laps. Report at www.retro-speed.co.uk with full image gallery up tonight. Plenty of YouTube video from our rallies editor.

Title: Re: RallyDay Cornbury 14/15 May Post by: peterbaker on 17 May, 2011, 08:23:21 PM LMC seems more interested in the 'show and shine' side of things that goes with static displays. IMHO.

I'm not that bothered with the static displays personally. It's all about driving the car and socialising. I just have a different driving style in the Gamma in comparison to my previous cars. ("What's that noise? Did something just fall off? Will I make it to my destination?") Much prefer touring with mine, but each to his own, and who is to say if anyone is right or wrong, if the competition side floats your boat, great, but it's not the be all and end all for everyone, personally I can't stand the sort of events when owners polish the undersides of their cars, but if it makes them happy, what's the harm. Now there's a question - did any Appias ever have one? David Title: Re: RallyDay Cornbury 14/15 May Post by: peterbaker on 18 May, 2011, 01:14:33 PM To the best of my knowledge, no. It was never a serious contender in race/rally except in later, more powerful Zagato form. Of course the engine was used in the Dagrada Formula Junior. Nardi produced engine kits for all series engines with up to 60bhp avaliable. Mantovani ,driving a 62bhp Zagato GTE won the 1100cc class on the 1957 Mille Miglia averaging 74.82 mph. By 1960 the Dagrada engine, with eight port head and two twin choke carbs was producing enough power to win the Italian FJ round at Monza. Homolgation papers for the 2nd Series makes no mention of an LSD and DC (Don Cross) agrees.

Brian 8227 8) It's a funny one this as I view things like the Chatsworth/Cholmondley?/Cornbury/Castle Combe CLS shows as a good way of getting a fantastic parking spot to view the action and normally at preferential rates. If it means giving the car a bit of a polish to make it look presentable then that's a small price to pay. It's also good to look at finding a decent route to and from the event to enjoy the car. I don't normally take up the offer of a run on the circuit, stage or hill. Would love to do Le Mans Classic or Rally Legends but work and family commitments don't allow. |
