Title: What value a Fulvia 1.3 engine Post by: HF_Dave on 10 July, 2011, 10:52:13 AM I have had a guy (recent Fulvia owner) come to me here in Ireland looking for a Fulvia 1.3 engine. I have two spare engines in stock, one is worn with noisy internals and the other is siezed from being left outside. Neither engine is good enough to transplant. I sent him to another chap who has an engine with a stuck valve, but I think he wants a perfect engine. I don't think he will find one that easy here in Ireland. I want to hang on to a spare and re-build later, so i am wondering what the cost of a re-build is and what is the value of a worn fulvia engine. The guy is not a member. Thanks david, :)

complete strip proper clean (professionally dipped) plugs out of the crank and clean new rings re-honed new bearings carb rebuild water pump rebuild all new gaskets and seals new timing chain if you do all the labour yourself and farm out a few bits (the cleaning and the re-honing) it will cost about £1000 in parts. Done professionally I doubt you get change from £5K (for a standard engine). If it requires new valve guides an valves then probably another £400+ will be needed. I've done both 1300 and 1600 engines and the cost is about the same as long as the specifically different parts are not broke (a 1300 crank is a lot easier and cheaper to find than a 1600 crank for instance). At a guess I would have thought a 1300 engine requiring the above would be in the £500 range. A 1600 engine (because of its rarity, perceived desirability and the rarity of some specific bits would be £2000+). A siezed engine will likely require about another £1000 spent on it (new pistons + re-bore), so the noisy engine is probably the better bet. Hope that helps, and any other opinions welcome as that's just my view. I'm sure if cared for better theyt would last longer. Thanks David. :)

Either your keyboard is adding zeros Neil or I need to re-value my collection of engines. I would have thought £100 to £300 for an old engine depending on condition and perhaps £400 to £800 to rebuild one. I must re-write the part of my will relating to the disposal of my garage contents - David, consider yourself disinherited but promoted to executor status.
