Title: Aurelia B20 restoration projects
Post by: Sliding Pillar on 19 October, 2011, 07:37:00 PM
There are a few B20 restoration projects for sale and coming up for auction at the moment:
http://www.christophgrohe.com/detail-x-141-lan-ENG.html The asking price is 38,000euro, a few items missing, radiator, ashtrays, hubcaps and not all the wheels are correct, but looks nice and original with rust in all the places you would be replacing if you were restoring a B20.
http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/online-catalogue/lancia-aurelia.aspx coming up for auction in the next few days, again a car that hasn't been mucked about with too much although I wouldn't beleive the bit about no reserve!
and this one that has been on the market for a while now http://www.marreyt-classics.com/stockdetail.cfm?ID=561 37,500euro

The Historics auction Aurelia made £26,000 on the hammer, so about £30,000 with commision and VAT.
The Christoph Grohe car is now listed as sold too!

Joop Stolze has 2 for around £50k a 2nd and a 5th series.   The red race prepped car looks very nice (from the photos anyway).

My first reaction was that the price achieved at Brooklands was high (and well above my max bid!) for such a project but on reflection I suppose it just incorporates a reasonable  % of the general rise in Aurelia prices over the past 3 years or so.
There now seems to be a general shortage of Aurelia projects around in Europe whereas 5 or 10 years ago there seemed to be plenty so the law of supply and demand also comes into play.
And year on year the cost of restoration goes up whatever the economy etc.

restoration costs have risen 50% in the last 5 years according to the classic and sportscar market review 2011

I am sure in 10 years time when the last barn find B20 in worse condition than all of these sells for a small fortune we will kick ourselves at not "snapping one up" for £35k!

With - just listed - indifferent restored cars (one a 30 year old resto)  on Anamera at 150K Euros, the kicking might start sooner than you think....

These prices make the 5th Series B20 currently for sale in full running order at Luzzago in Italy look positively cheap!
I am not at Padova this weekend but I wonder what the prices will be like there?

Indeed, unfortunately I cannot be there either, but I know last year there was a maroon B20S1 asking 200k Euros in the "private seller corral" section, which I heard sold at the event...good body and interior but untidy under bonnet, long term owner.

Can't speak about the Luzzago car, I visited a few years ago to look at car at his place but was disappointed by the flashed over stock.

Not a restoration project, but the B20S 6th series sold at Bonhams Australian auction for £106,000

I had a good look at this car at the Oz auction and it was restored to a superb standard, inside, outside, and underneath.

Sorry Chris, no idea what the asking price is. It does say that it is complete, although there are lots of bits missing in the photos.

Apparently the car is complete with matching numbers as built according to the vendor and the asking price is €25,000. Worth a look I would have said.

The 2nd Series B20 project is apparently near Athens.
So that is the bad news but the good news MIGHT be that the shell is not too rusty if the car has lived in that area for a long time.

Interesting.   Something that jumped out was the Montreal with the back seat a different colour from the fronts.  Never seen that before but I think it works.
