Title: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: sllim1946 on 29 October, 2011, 05:39:39 PM Goodwood Trackday Saturday 7 April 2012
Planning for next year is underway and the date agreed with the Goodwood organisers is rather earlier this year with the event scheduled for the 7 April. That’s Easter Saturday which proved a popular day when used a couple of years ago. This advance notice is to let you start saving for the event or perhaps to suggest to someone that it would make a very nice Christmas present. I think I have made you all aware in the past how important this event in the history of the club and how it is becoming increasingly difficult to finance both for the club as well as for you and therefore we intend to invite other clubs to participate but LMC members will be getting the entry forms before anybody else – so be ready. To assist in making the event affordable in the face of increased track hire costs and to give more track time to participants, we intend to change the format very slightly. The day has always been run with groups of 5 cars on the circuit at one time which has allowed us a very high noise level per car of 105dBA but recently we have not had cars entering with sound outputs at that level so we intend to go for 8 cars on track which will require all cars to pass a 98dBA test (my Delta Turbo measures 86 dBA which is less than half this track limit). Last year our noise levels for individual cars and the overall sessions were well down on this reduced maximum so we do not anticipate having any problems next year. The increase to 8 cars will substantially reduce the waiting between runs and allow you greater track time and a more relaxed ‘queuing experience’ even though we intend to increase the maximum entry from 40 to 44 cars. I have been running at Brands Hatch this year with up to 24 cars on a 1.2 mile circuit, we will have 8 on 2.4 miles so you will still have a very safe not to say luxurious track day! Best news till last – with the above changes despite inflation running at 5%, the price will remain the same as last year and don’t forget the extra track time on offer. Entry forms in December's VL! Title: Re: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: nyssa7 on 04 November, 2011, 08:05:59 PM Arggh! Not sure if I have the kappa running in time that it will meet the new noise limit. Have to try and find a compromise exhaust arrangement, the difference between 89db and 103db proved to be around 25bhp!
And not easy to plug one of the silencer thingies on the end of the "tail-pipe" as that exits in front of the rear wheel Darn! Title: Re: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: thecolonel on 04 November, 2011, 10:02:27 PM I had the same problem, last time I went out I was
at 105 db at 4500 revs. Title: Re: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: sllim1946 on 05 November, 2011, 09:40:15 PM colonel sahib, i am not being able to imagine that you are shouting so loud!
I cannot think that any legal road going car cannot easily pass a 98 dBA test except perhaps the Caterham 500 which has an incredible noisy intake tract - the exhaust is fine! Come on guys don't put off members unless there really is a problem. Note to nyssa7 - your slightly not road car will still be extraordinary quick even with 25 bhp less! see you all there (Gammas especially welcome!) - Brian Mills Title: Re: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: thecolonel on 05 November, 2011, 09:54:06 PM Brian I can assure you I'm not trying
to dissuade anyone, it's one of best events/days out of the year. I was under the impression that Goodwood was expecting to be able to increase noise levels in the near future. At my last track excursion the Gamma was running a straight through exhaust and was considerably louder than standard, I have reduced it to lower the number of car alarms it was setting off. To anyone who's never been before or in the least bit concerned they may get in the way or not be quick enough, we all felt like that the first time out so get down there and enjoy it at your own pace, no-one cares how slow or fast you are, it's NOT a race, it's just a chance to drive and enjoy both your car and the scenary ;) Title: Re: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: thecolonel on 18 December, 2011, 04:49:41 PM The main track Marshall will take you out

Arrangements made with Goodwood whereby entrants may leave their cars in the covered paddock bays before 17:00 on Friday 6 April. The whole site will be locked up shortly after that time and then patrolled by roaming security guards throughout night. Gates are unlocked at 07:00 the next day. Accommodation is widely available in the area. Cheapest option in the Travelodge at Fontwell - there is a Shell garage opposite which sells all grades also. Try this link for B&B - www.chichester-bed-breakfast.co.uk Good accommodation also in the very quiet village of Charlton - try googling Woodstock House or The Fox Goes Free. regards and hope to see you there Brian Mills Title: Re: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: fay66 on 31 January, 2012, 01:19:22 PM There are two Travel lodges at Fontwell , Arundel Fontwell, by the roundabout and Garage and perfectly acceptable when we stayed there last year before going onto Beaulieu on the sunday, the other is alongside the racecourse. and Arundul Fontwell Park, I think the first maybe slightly cheaper, whereas the Fontwell Park is newer.

When we go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed we always stay at a very nice small B/B in the pretty village of Wisborough Green which is a 20-25 minute (entertaining) drive north east of Goodwood. Safe parking, it's situated down a quiet country lane and within 10 mins walking distance from a couple of nice pubs in the village. Contact Sally Slater (The Hawthorns) on 01403 700030. Thanks to Brian, Linda and team at Goodwood. I couldn't believe we got 5 runs in before the Beta Parade. I wasn't feeling too good (sorry to anyone who goes down with a mystery virus in a couple of days...) so finished at 3pm but could have really worn my Fulvia out...Sarah was putting in some really fast laps towards the end and didn't want to go home!
Here's to next year and the Fulvia 50 celebrations. Title: Re: LMC Goodwood Trackday 2012 - Saturday 7 April Post by: ColinMarr on 08 April, 2012, 07:57:05 AM Sorry me and my Fulvia missed it all! And I couldn't quite believe I got 8 runs, with number 8 following 7 immediately; exit track, U-turn back onto pit-lane and straight back on! Made last year's 4 runs seem all the more pitiful. I think yesterday's format was pretty much spot on Brian, so well done. Let's do that again next year! Steve, you're very welcome. PS. If someone finds themselves short of a green metal petrol can, I handed it over to one of the circuit officials in the Signing-in room at the very end of the day. It was sitting all on its lonesome near one corner of the covered garages in the paddock. A big thanks to Brian and everybody else involved in organising the day. I spent so much time on track I didn't get round to doing much else including taking pictures.
