Since the first European Sliding Pillar Meeting we organised in 2001 we have endeavoured to
make the weekend more attractive and convivial for the participants each time. The seventh
edition is already in our sights and we are hard at work with the preparations.
The event from 14 th to 17 th June 2013 promises to be a notable one, not least thanks to the exceptional
venue we have secured: the Château Fort in the historic city of Sedan (northern France).
This centuries-old fortified hilltop castle, part of which has recently been converted into an
exclusive 3-star hotel with some fifty rooms, will provide an unsurpassed setting for our event.
Sedan is situated 380 km from Amsterdam, 300 km from Calais, 360 km from Frankfurt
and 800 km from Torino. The entire hotel complex will be at our disposal throughout the
weekend. The imposing courtyard within the massive castle walls will provide the most secure
parking place our cars have ever had!
We are also particularly pleased to be able to announce a slight reduction in price compared
with the 2011 event. Once more we aim to uphold the well-deserved reputation of the
Sliding Pillar Meetings as the unsurpassed international reunion for committed old-Lancia
enthusiasts. The positive reactions we have received so far for this seventh European Sliding
Pillar Meeting encourage us to believe that 14-17June 2013 will be a weekend to remember.
There are 54 rooms available in total, consisting of 40 rooms with every comfort and 14
superior/suite rooms, available for just a little extra. As usual the rule is: first come, first served.
So we recommend early booking to avoid disappointment. You can find all the details in the
enclosed folder.
We look forward to welcoming you in Sedan next June!

This is the booking form for the event.

There will also be a limited number of places available for Flaminias, Flavias, or Fulvias.

Over two thirds of the rooms in the hotel have now been booked (Including all the superior rooms) with an especially strong antipodean contingent entered. So if you were thinking of entering this event I urge you to do it straight away, or you may be disappointed.

We have managed to secure some rooms in a nearby hotel, so there will be the option to take part in the rally, but stay in a hotel a short distance away. I will post details and a registration form for this option in the next few days.

As promised we would come back to you with an alternative, making it possible to participate this year’s rally. Attached you will find all details. We now propose an all-in formula, except hotel accommodation.
On the separate attachment you can find an overview of the available hotels in Sedan. As we cannot work with pre-booked rooms for the various hotels anymore, participants should book their own room(s) in the hotel of choice.

If you mention the Sliding Pillar Rally to the nearest hotel (Le Saint-Michel) they will put you in one of the twenty rooms they have allocated to participants of the organisation and that they will keep for a few weeks. With a demand for 9 extra rooms already, we would advise not to wait too long to confirm!!.

Don’t forget to fill out the new registration form and send it back to us, so we can book you in definitely.

Looking forward seeing you in June,

Eduard, Jan, Toon and Andrew

Your Sliding Pillar team

A great event, as usual. The venue was superb, although the service could have been a bit faster. Thanks to all of the organisers, especially Eduard, Jan and Andrew.

As promised here are some more pictures from the event, first a couple of general shots of the courtyard of the Castle Fort Sedan and one of the Fort taken from a hillside seveal miles away, I hope this gives a feel for the size of the place..... HUGE!
There were over 130 people at the event, which had entrants from 12 different countries including 2 teams from USA and 4 teams from Australia, which goes to prove this is now the premier worldwide event for older Lancias.

Aurelias, the pale blue B20 is one of the Basso built lightweight replicas (mentioned elsewhere on the Forum)
A couple of photos of my late B50 Cabriolet alongside Sebastien Simon's early dark red car. Note the differences in frontal treatment and the different shape of the rear end and boot lid. Having said they are early and late cars there is in fact only one year between them!
Following a B20 and B12

On Saturday eventing Geoffrey Goldberg (USA) gave a presentation on his forthcoming book, the history of Francesco de Virgilio,
a fasinating insight into the man, and his ties with the Lancia family.

Two of the five Aurelia B24 on the rally.
Wim Oude Weernink's Appia Camioncino with an Aprilia that was voted the best Lancia Sedan in Sedan.
Another very rare car, Toon Van Hoorick's Fanalone in it's original colour Rosso di melanzane (Aubergine)

I like the earlier rear and the later front of the B50's. When I first read your post Ade I thought the reference to late meant you had sold it!!!

Tim

PS Did the good Doctor and his Montecarlo make it???

Brilliant stuff...one day, one day...

Interesting how easily I spot them now - any more pictures or information about the Flavia Sport?

I hope all the non sliding pillar cars brought sick notes for their garage mates.

A really enjoyable SPR and a huge range of interesting vehicles. Some great locations as well - here's some 'TV Parking' right outside our lunch restaurant. An exciting route to get there over well chosen roads, and Bouillon is a charming town, well worth a visit

And one more from me - a selection of Aurelias. A big thank you to all the organisers - to Eduard, Jan and Andrew and their teams and of course to Toon for the excellent Tulip routes. The use of the Sedan hotel/castle was inspired and as the whole hotel was booked the courtyard had a special atmosphere as it was full of our cars. The locations we visited were attractive, with good food ( lots of it) and great scenery. The SPR now is a huge international event and this year's was one of the very best. A very enjoyable weekend - thank you!

Also from me - a big thank you to the organisers, who made it a most enjoyable week-end. The mix of participants and cars was overwhelming, and time passed away too quickly.

Some photos of prewar cars to complete what has been shown before: the special bodied Augustas (or Belnas?) were nice, Don Williamson's Artena was going well, but most interesting car to me that week-end was the Lancia Lambda from the 1929 Mille Miglia.

That MM Lambda photo shows an exhaust bypass valve.  How common were those on Lambdas?

The exhaust cut-out were standard, even on a coachbuilt Lambda saloon! ;D
To get a bit more power when climbing alpine passes - there are quite a few descriptions in literature of more pedestrian cars climbing slowly up, and being overtaken by a roaring Lambda!!
There is an early version, in aluminum, very fragile, and two later versions, from the 7th series onwards, in cast iron, as fitted to the MM car.

First class rally as always - our favorite of the year although Fulvia 50 runs it close this year.

For us the rally started on the Wednesday when John Millham and Chris Hopkins (Augusta) and Aussies Bill Jameson and Kim Brownbill (John's Lambda) arrived to over night with us before setting off for Dover early on the Thursday morning. Fun evening spent eating, drinking, talking Lancia, time in the workshop and watching the Steady Barker DVD, 'Holding Steady' celebrating his 90th birthday which contains some lovely shots of Modestine on an SP Rally.

Dover for the 10.15 ferry to Calais and meet up with Mike and Cin Wheeler in the March Augusta. Managed to get a tad off the planned route through northern France and inevitably got separated. However, incredibly we all arrived at the overnight stop at Charleville M within 5 minutes of each other! Another fun evening spent in the nearby Buffalo Grill.

On to the fabulous rally headquarters in the Chateau Fort of Sedan for three days and nights of pure Sliding Pillar magic with lots of local history and culture thrown in for good measure.

Many, many thanks to Edward, Jan and Andrew for a superb event - next year Eastbourne, ummmm... 20 miles from home!

The journey back across France was going well until 100 miles short of Calais the clutch fell apart (see Modestine thread) and once again we finished a journey courtesy of the recovery service. Hey ho!

Robin.

At least it was on the way back...

There must have been a good fuel saving :)

Oh dear....many miles on the clutch, or something else related which led to the failure?

Spotted your answer to my question, these things happen and not its been repaired with a better quality item

yes David, that's the one saving grace of returning home on a recovery truck. Worth thick end of £100 on this occasion! :)
