Does anyone know the weekend for this event yet?

Just checked the date with Bruce Beattie - who doesn't do email so I offered to put the date on the Forum - and he has confirmed the dates as 22nd to 24th March 2013.  Details will shortly be enclosed with Viva Lancai.

strange comment to make, nothing to do with me regarding the person asking but thought LMC would welcome the chance to possibly recruit new members by non members attending these events as per the LMC track day in the south which attracts a lot of non members to go along.

I seem to have been mis-understood re gate crashing. I will be the first to want the club to have new members at its event. I meant that is would be easy for someone to come to the hotel for that weekend on maybe just maybe a better deal than those who have subscribed to the event as organised. This has happened at other "residential" events and leads to problems. It is not a problem for non-residential events such as Goodwood. Having said that I re-iterate I would love our events to attract new members.

Ahh no probs, fully understand what your saying now and rightly so, just came across a bit wrong to start off with.

I have booked double accomadation at the Radisson hotel for the weekend, but the 'flu & a lack of Lancias are putting me off going.

Don't know what you know regarding that ,but when I last spoke to bruce who is organising it he stated he had cars coming from all over and a few travelling over from europe.Unfortunately he is not on the forum to answer,so maybe worth giving him a ring to confirm what sort of numbers are attending.

Jeez - has anyone seen the weather forecast! Can only hope it's pessimistic. Blizzard conditions from Friday lunch through to Saturday evening according to the BBC. The weather is not smiling on the LMC at the moment!

Neil, I noticed the appalling weather forecast for the GNW weekend.

I just hope that 'they' have got it wrong and you get some acceptable weather.

Seems like when ever I go to a Lancia event it snows this year. Taking Rosie (Gamma) even though there is a curious knock coming from her engine.

As Frank says things change by the hour and current BBC for Durham area is just cold not much snow if any.....

Have to say the last time it was organised by Bruce weather was also pretty challenging up on the Moors for our drive out but everyone still had an enjoyable time-will take a spade this year just in case!

At present roads around and upto Durham are fine including most back roads,still very cold though.
Up towards the Durham dales are not too bad at present as well.
(ask me again on friday and i will let you know any problems )

Just fitted winter tyres in case the snow forecast over pennines tomorrow and saturday goes further east. I have given up at the moment of deviating to Sheffield to see our daughter..... ???

Would appreciate a full update late this aft. There is a good inch of snow in Yorkshire at the moment and it's forecast to keep going until Sunday. Current forecast for Durham is snow tomorrow afternoon. At the moment I'm 30/30/30 between cancel altogether, go in the new VW(urgh!) or just go for it. I can just see the face of the cop/AA man if I get stuck on the A1 in the Lancia!

I am in Southampton at the moment, and have to come back down to Gatwick on Sunday, for a flight to Mallorca.  The weather conditions are not good through the midlands, so very reluctantly, I have had to cancel. A great shame, as the Great Northerns, are always the highlight of my Lancia year.

Decision here is to use the Vdub ( >:(), disappointing, but better than not going at all. Not that the Beta has ever broken down, or got stuck in the snow, but it seems the responsible thing to do.

Decided last night to cancel due to forecast, but reassessed today and have decided to go. Were currently on A1 @Grantham with no snow yet.  ::) Will update later. Main problem seems to be getting back to Colchester on Sunday.

A great shame that the weather yet again keeps members from doing what they enjoy most....most importantly keep safe!

Same here, but plenty to keep me awake on the way. MPG down to 23! It's usually about 27.

Morning is free time to enjoy Durham. Run out is starting 2pm at 1 min intervals for scenic trip with tea stop.

Many thanks to Bruce & Wendy for a fantastic weekend. Great hotel with the best food I can remember at a gala dinner. The image of the Lancias skidding and sliding up the ramp at the Bowes Museum will stay with me forever!

That is pretty awful guys....respect to all who went, or even considered going

Well done and congratulations to everyone that went despite the appalling conditions. I am delighted that the accommodation and especially the Gala Dinner was so good, seems an appropriate reward to those who made it.

The weekend will have been memorable, I am looking forward to seeing the photographs !!!!

East/west A66 closed since Friday, its a dual carriageway!
Had to divert on the way via snow covered minor roads quite exciting even in an integrale.

Went back to the Bowes museum on the way home today, then had to go south to the A59 to get back west of the Pennines, only the odd drift of blown snow.

Excellent weekend.

made it home safely at high speed (280 miles in 3 3/4 hours) with variable oil pressure and engine knocking occasionally.

winter tyres worked well starting Rosie (Gamma) on sheet ice upholl at Bowes musuem, and also on the drifting snow around the dales around Durham.

Thanks to the organisers.
Most enjoyable weekend, even though the Arnott carburetor decided to disintegrate (slightly) and the brake lights came on and stayed on. Got home in time to watch the F1 race. Better wash the car tomorrow.

Many thanks to Bruce, Wendy and their team of great helpers, whatever the weather, the GNW is always an enjoyable event. Picture this - one of the cheerful marshals stood on top of a hill outside in horizontally drifting snow - true grit!!
When you see what other parts of the country suffered this weekend, we were actually in the right place.  Like others I am sure, I can't wait to wash the salt of the car.  Roll on a warmer Welsh Weekend - I hope.   

 The Y10 Selectronic cruised up from Bristol via Oxford and home again with minimum of fuss all-be-it heating also a bit minimal!
 MPG approx double your "usual" John for the 700+ miles
 On the down side my "For Sale" sign did not attract much attention as weather conditions did not encourage too much loitering in the car park.

Great weekend Bruce, Wendy and NE section who as ever pulled out all the stops with a lovely hotel with super food and great hospitality.
Commitments on the Friday resulted in a Saturday start, but shock/horror could only see half a Thesis such was the snow drifts and our estate was impassable without much digging, so begrudgingly took the XC90 c/w winter tyres and snow chains in the boot. Even then the journey was fraught at times but once over the Pennines it got better with the NE surprisingly clear along the A1 & Durham itself.
Considering the weather the turn out was fantastically well attended.
The tour was nice even though cut short and watching John overtaking slower traffic and throwing that Augusta around through the drifts with Don in his integrale in hot pursuit was great from our cosy elevated position.
The homeward journey was no problem at all.
Well done organisers!

Thank you Bruce, Wendy & your team for a great weekend.  Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Apart from the climb up to the Bowes Museum the VX behaved superbly & covered the 253 miles home in 3 1/2 hours.  Washed the salt off the top straight away but will have to wait till the hose thaws before hosing the underside.

A great weekend! The hotel and its location were excellent and the organisation very efficient - thanks to Bruce, Wendy, the marshalls, the quiz-setters and all the local helpers. Sorry we couldn't bring the B20 but all that salt is not a good additive - but - a very enjoyable weekend!  Lorna & Adrian

We got home in good time down the A1 enjoying the white views and not taking any shortcuts.
Having done the detour to Bowes museum with snow action over the moors we can truly say it was a adventure weekend not to be missed
