The colour looks to be non standard navy blue, if it sold for somewhere near its guide price it would be a large step-up in Spider values. I think this is the car that Paul Guttman had restored in the nineties, can anyone confirm this?

I would much prefer this car, original and untouched, just read the description!

With you on that one Ade. What a wonderful project to buy and maybe not too much corrosion either so minimal new metal.
For me, I dont like over restored cars - after all they are just a car - so this would be ideal. An I love the turn of phrase in the blurb about 'what was ordinary originally and then becomes rare....is still ordinary etc etc.....'.
Would you care to guess what price this will go for? What did the similar condition B24S Convertible project sold recently in the States go for?

I would suspect if this reached anything like the top end of guide, then it would certainly be a big step forward for the 50s Lancias. Also it would reflect well on the restorer and previous owner if they both got it right

Partly because other "exotica"...whilst lacking both style and cutting edge engineering are worth so much more because of name or engine size!!

May I make a guess of 220K sterling for the car in need of some work? Richard

Paul Guttman had both a Spider and the dark red Convertible..... not to mention various other Lancias.

Chris, the cream B24 Convertible in original unrestored condition (B24s 1297) sold for $242,000 about £150,000
compare this to the restored B24s Convertible (B24s 1316) that sold at Coys 4-12-12 for £172,500 http://www.finecars.cc/en/detail/car/203292/index.html?no_cache=1&ret=63
which I think is the same car that is now for sale at Graeme Hunt for £250,000 although I would need the chassis number to confirm this. http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page/187085/1956-lancia-aurelia/

So to sum up I think the red spider Gooding are auctioning will make the top of their estimate of $400-450,000 (about £280,000)

The full catalogue for the possible 'million dollar Aurelia' starts on page 110 of auction catalogue, which is here:
http://www.rmauctions.com/digitalcatalogs/2013/AZ13/ (http://www.rmauctions.com/digitalcatalogs/2013/AZ13/)

Seemingly no expense was spared in the photography (some excellent shots) and write up.  What a shame that RM rather spoiled the overall effect by claiming that a B20 won the 1951 Mille Miglia.  Ooops.

Well, first the link wouldn't work and did not become highlighted, so I tried it as a "reply". Then the link worked it's initial form, having altered the text before the limk. Then I tried to remove the link from the reply, and got an alert to say I had left the reply empty. So I then inserted a full stop. ???
