Title: Aprilia fuel level sender
Post by: BlueSky on 03 April, 2013, 04:02:00 AM
The other day the cord for the float in the fuel tank sender unit came off. In my attempt to get it back on the the whole thing sprang apart. In doing so a little spring fell out, see pic. Does anyone have any idea were it goes? I think one end attaches to the end of the clock spring above the large pulley, you can just see a small hole were it wraps around the spring clip, but were the other goes is not obvious, well to me anyway! I think I've got the rest of it back the way it should be, but then again never having it apart before I could have it wrong.

Hi Noel
If you look on the first page of my Aprilia diary there is a photo of the top plate. When I took mine to pieces I am sure there wasn't a coil spring like the one you found So either mine had already been lost, in which case it isn't too important (my sender works !) or it has come from somewhere else

If you want any other photos of the sender let me know, I took loads, or I have the boot in bits at the moment and can take the top off the sender to take any other specific ones you may want

Good luck !

Hi Simon,
After I sent this post I did look at your photos and noticed there was no little spring there. I'll try the thing without it. One question, how tight did you wind the clock spring?

I think I did 2 turns, but 3 may be better because mine can be a bit lazy !

I got a sender unit in a box load of spares I bought a while ago and arrived today, so I took it to pieces and discovered where the spring came from ! Fits into the hole above the pivot. On this one it was bent so I spotted it.
Hope it's not too late .....

Simon,

Thanks for the picture. You are correct, the little spring fits up inside the large pulley spindle and there sets the correct height when it's mounted on the shaft.
