Title: Variante 1005 Ignition timing
Post by: bobhenry999 on 27 April, 2013, 02:06:59 PM
Guys,

My car is a Variante 1005, with the Nardi inlet manifold, carburettor and larger liners and pistons.

My question is; does anybody know if the timing should be set as per a normal 815 1500, or is it different as I can`t seem to eradicate the pinking when under load.

Thanks,

Bob

I am not familiar with Flavias but is there a BTDC timing mark on the flywheel to go by? Richard

Richard,

Yes there are, but they will of course be the timing marks for a standard car, and I`m not sure if they would be correct for mine.

Are you running high octane (Vpower etc) fuel?? Have you tried Castrol valve master plus octane enhancer??

What some Gamma guys do is to get it too a point where the timing causes pinking and then just back off a bit. And then note the reading. If it isnt a few degrees advanced statically then something else is wrong - but unlikely....
