Seems very reasonably priced, at the moment...

But the price at the moment means nothing, as the significant bidding happens in the last few seconds. I use auctionsniper.com and they only charge 1%, so it's really worthwhile.

If you a lot of bidding, then try bidnapper.com as they have flat fee for the year, have used them for many years and very little trouble.

why don't we produce things like this anymore, i remember finding this really helpful when i first became a member.
I know it's easy to expect someone else to do the work but if a few of our specialists could be pursuaded and coordinated through the club to make model summaries or collate hints and tips on models i'm sure many members would be much more enthusiastic to buy copies of things like this than the by now almost infamous "book".
I would be one of many i suspect that would be happy to buy a reference work on rebuilding fulvia engines by Peter Gerrish for example even if the club couldn't sponser the effort partly.same goes for other models.
oops there i go once more....

Indeed, there is an Aurelia publication, don't think its as fulsome as this item, the club has already got lots of info, techie articles and all sorts that would fill several volumes of quite a few models in the club.

Is it doable in the current climate, needs a committee decision to bring forward and as ever quite an input from all of the LMCs experts and long standing members.

Good idea! Perhaps in the meantime, there could be seperate model technical /tips sections on this forum for that very purpose, with the benefit of a reduced time scale. After all, forum member's valuable technical information, and first hand experiencies which already exist, but have been forgotten perhaps, and are difficult to search for, could be here very soon, if enough posts. richard

I started technical information only threads on the Aprilia and Lambda fora and they have worked very well but was a little shy to do it here. Nevertheless, I have now!

Hi ,

I think the forum is an ideal place for this information , we all know how to use it and can all contribute and can add pictures too. I like doing this way as it gives a collective result and peer review of the posts.

I agree that the forum is not the easiest to search through. As posters you'd need to make sure you give a clear subject to you posts so that they can be found. This will help.

We the database, I am pulling all the forum thread into the library area so that they are searchable ie: the subjects are indexed in the database. You can then jump from the database to the forum and read the full article.

It is my plan to pull everything that's in the database library (12,000 items and counting) into some form of PDF that would be browse-able by the members so you can see everything that's there ... I'll need to think about this (ie: how does it get ordered/categorised?) - but my target would be to have something for the NEC ie: a phyisically printed index of what we've got :)

@David : I've set the technical information topics as "Sticky" so they'll remain at the top of the Forum - you should be able to find them easily.

As ever Steve........just wonderful......the biggest step forward the LMC will make in its media and information dissemination for all members.

It pains me that so few members use the forum......................when even now you can't book flights unless its via a computer and even Autotrader is ceasing its paper editions this week!

Went for £16.30 and worth every penny! but don't forget there are two slightly different versions of this as previously discussed.

This book and the Beta Journal are among my favourite car books. I wonder if some sort of re-run, or ebook versions would be feasable?

Just a clarification.ther were two aspects to my post in one message.
I was suggesting in a roundabout way that technical works might well be sold in  (much) greater numbers by members than the ted bates book ever will. The thread then went down the road of electronic database which i always strongly supported.
1)Books and databases are complimentary in my view.My laptop will never be a subsitute for a decent book, they serve different needs and are equally important.
A list of data in a pdf is not the same as a written description of how use the information in a hands on way. Both are required if you work alone.Electronic data is in theory more efficient if you consider volume and speed of availability but you need to know what you are searching for and retrieval is sensitive to the right "search" terms often. There comes a point however strange it may seem when it is actually more efficient to walk to the bookshelf and take one book on the subject and have everything availavble in "one search action".than to look for all relevant points seperately.

2) club finances are a regular source of squabbeling (see posts on the agm speaker and remuneration....) The glass is always half empty it seemsto me if i read the posts here.Rather than being pleased with a stong forum, some focus on how few from the club (relatively speaking) use it<; <have you seen how many guests are on line often?
Technical journals would potentially have a large audience of none club members (slightly higher price for none members?). Nobody outside the club will every buy the ted bates book.....
This isn't about my oppostion to "the book" .I just think technical manuals are the simplest and most useful way to keep the club alive; if cars don't run, there will be no meetings...It might also be a good source of revenue.

Hello
I agree with Scarpia that often there is just no substitute for  a hard copy. Is it possible to get some quotes for a print run of this Journal?
Perhaps starting with the printers of VL and maybe sources in Eastern Europe and the Far East. I would be happy to make the calls but regretfully I don't have a copy of the Journal for reference. If anyone can supply me with some basic details e.g. size, no. of pages, no.of colours, I could make some initial inquiries Hoping I'm not treading on anybody's toes here.
Maybe a subject for discussion, to gauge interest amongst those attending Fulvia 50.
Tim

As before, there is an Aurelia version ( have two copies of it) , but its not 50 pages long, perhaps there is another more fulsome compilation that I haven't seen?

I do like a hard copy, have steadily bulked up my VLs collection over this last year, shortly to collect a number of years editions going back to the 70s

Hi Chris,
Have a look at http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5669.msg40700#msg40700 where I'd previously mentioned it and noted the differences, but the first version was 1977 and the second 1985.

Hi Tim,
I don't think you'd be treading on toes - it is a general thing that I think the club could do with : an idea of what is needed to produce hard copy and what sort of prices it cost and how we'd get it delivered. It is a separate topic and something worth investigating. As technology moves along then these things should become affordable and easy enough to do. The database is certainly geared up to producing information in PDF format which I've always hoping would be easy enough to get produced in print.
regards,
Steve

Thanks Brian,
The wonder of the forum/internet! I have a couple of copies of the original version - one a little battered and the other is pristine - but I have now been able to collect the additional article by Tim B and Peter G which was added to the later version. Thanks a lot.

Peter - hardly off topic, as we seem to be discussing the reproduction of these excellent past LMC publications. The Beta Journal was published in 1989 on very much the same lines of it's Fulvia counterpart (a mixture of LMC and general media articles). It is also edited by Brian and is 104 pages with  a slightly better glued binding.

See below next to my 1985 Fulvia Journal.

My favourite article in the Beta Journal; 1300 Coupe v Alfasud Sprint, Fiat 128, Ford Capri, Renault 15, Vauxhall Cavalier. The Spider is compared to a similar line up including a Renault Fuego. When did you last see a Fuego, let alone a 15! Brilliant!

Have made contact with the printers of VL to obtain a quotation and at their request sent them a copy of the Journal, kindly lent by Richard Fridd. The guy handling the quote is now on holiday until 17th June, so will be a bit of a delay.
Can someone please advise me to whom I should forward the quote.

There is a Fulvia/Theta CD coming out from the club but not sure what is going to be on it. It will come out before the book though. I wonder if these Journals are part of the scans.....If not a CD of the Journal would be a cheaper way forward.....

Chris Hopkins has stated in this thread what will be on the CD. It includes the Fulvia journal, so I think it highly unlikely that the committee will sanction reprinting it.
