Title: Aprilia steering column
Post by: tzf60 on 19 February, 2014, 08:15:23 PM
Hi all!
I attach a photograph of my Aprilia's steering column. The short outer tube doesn't move relative to the main steering column, and I think it should. Am I correct in assuming that it has seized?

Regards,
Tim

OK Tim, now you know.

Please let us know how you manage to free it and also restore it to its proper function.

Having applied a lot of heat to the outer tube, I gently tapped it through the loosely-fitting jaws of a vice, as I didn't have a suitable pullers. No harm done to the surface of the outer tube - it slides off the main shaft in the direction of the steering wheel, and is tapered. A quick clean of the inside of the short tube and it should then rotate freely on the main shaft.
