Title: Aurelias at Pebble Beach 2014
Post by: chriswgawne on 10 July, 2014, 05:48:40 AM
I understand that the fully restored Olivetti 'Bracco' Series 1 B20 is off to Pebble Beach at the end of the month. Will it return to the UK I wonder?
In the Goodings auction there is an unrestored B24 Spider as posted earlier and also a 1st Series B20GT (guide $225,000 -$275,000).

So is that "last chance to see" in line with their "open door restoration policy"?

At what stages did you get to see it?

Pebble is quite the extravaganza with about 4 major separate events and several different auctions. Here's a prelim Lancia report of some of  the action:

The Bracco B20 1010 will be at the Sunday Pebble Beach concours. First public showing.

There will be another B20 s.2 at Laguna, just freshly restored. At the auctions is a B20s.1 and a RHD s.4, as are four (!) B24 Spiders and the PF 200.

Don Osborne said he will be showing a Scorpion (Monte Carlo) in the preservation class at Quail.

I was one of the last to see the Bracco B20 on UK soil........ as I took it to the air freight terminal!

Interesting to see that RM, Bonhams and Gooding each have a Spider to sell this weekend at Monterey, and Gooding have another which needs restoration. RM have an RHD one in London next month. So Spiders can't be said to be hard to find - and you can have a choice of colours! In fact, a lot of Lancias  for sale this weekend, including a Lambda and a spectacular DiLambda

There appears to be a lot of 'cashing in' going on.....but I suppose this has been the case with Ferraris and suchlike for a few years now.
What is also part of the equation is the average waiting list of 18 months to 2 years to commencement of work  in high quality bodyshops in Europe and the UK ( each one of which I call into has expanded significantly in he last 3 or 4 years as well).

...there must be a lot of career prospects in the restoration industry, as the demand for high quality work is increasing at a huge rate. I hope this means that the traditional skills of metalwork, coachwork and paintwork are not only being kept alive but taken up by younger apprenctices...

Series 1 B20 went for about $175K hammer, $195K w premium.

For the others, this from Dave Eichenbaum on Lancisti.net:

RM had 1134 presented in new white finish (http://rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1067964) with a no-sale high-bid of $1.025M

Bonhams had 1177 presented with a hardtop (http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21917/lot/249/) sold at a $1.0M, total with premium $1.1M

Gooding had 1170 presented unrestored and convered with dust (http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/195...der-america-3/) sold at $800K, total with premium $880K

Gooding had 1009 freshly-resored (www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1955-lancia-aurelia-b24s-spider-america-4); I do not know the high bid on this car.    (note: it was $1.347K with premium)

Of note, 1134 was unsold at Artcurial Retromobile 2014 as lot 399, where it had been presented in Red with driving lights fitted.

In other news, this modified RHD car (1049) is coming up in the UK next month:

Additional to that list, the  restored PF200C spider on a B52 chassis was sold by RM for (only?) 1.100.000 USD.

To round off the Aurelias at Monterey - Bonhams had a B20 Series 4 - 3618 fitted with a Nardi kit- and wire wheels - which did not sell. Guide price was £130-150,000

There was also a red competition prepared Aurelia 4th Series  B20 at Coys Nurburgring auction on August 9th which apparently sold but no idea what the price was and Coys still haven't posted the results for some reason.
And coming up is another 4th series B20 prepared for rallying at the Historics auction at Brooklands on August 30th (with a guide price of £150-180k!)

The Historics rally B20 looks ambitious? - I haven't seen the details though...Coys always seem to be the slowest at posting results, whereas Bonhams are extremely quick

According to Coys, the red 4th Series B20 'competition' at their Nurburgring auction which had been driven by Gino Valenzano in a recent Mille Miglia was bid to €150k (+buyers premium of 10%) but remains unsold.

A friend who attended the Historics Auction at Brooklands tells me that the 'competition' 4th Series B20 bid to £100k but did not sell.
Apparently the car had a bench seat, column change, std brakes and suspension and no roll cage so there wasn't much 'competition' about it. There were also some paint defects. Not a bad price in the circumstances I would have thought.
