Title: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: dannels on 13 November, 2014, 04:36:43 PM I think they are auctioning this test £30k - it would be a lot of fun!

Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: JohnMillham on 13 November, 2014, 07:02:19 PM Why the number "0"? The Degrada I saw in the USA was also given No. "0"! Photo shows it at Sonoda Raceway. Shame about the silencers.
Regards, John Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: SanRemo78 on 13 November, 2014, 08:49:29 PM It's the number given to the course car generally, one that checks the stage is clear for the competitors.

Or rather, he was the driver. And yes, it was at a Goodwood Track Day several years ago. I've got photos from that very day somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them out. As, I'm sure, has Tony Harrison. Now I've just got to find circa £30K! ;)
Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: rikardo on 15 November, 2014, 07:44:22 PM And lastly.
Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: rikardo on 15 November, 2014, 07:51:43 PM Here's the original at Watkins Glen 1980.
Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: frankxhv773t on 15 November, 2014, 07:56:57 PM You can see the difference in the front wheel size on the Watkins glen car.
I think I heard the paint scheme was designed to make it difficult for other drivers to judge how close they were to it when trying to squeeze past, or is that just an urban myth? Frank Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: Richard Fridd on 15 November, 2014, 08:22:36 PM I am surprised the asking price is not greater.
Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: SanRemo78 on 15 November, 2014, 09:26:23 PM You can see the difference in the front wheel size on the Watkins glen car. Frank There are other differences too, the Watkins Glen car looks to have full Monte Carlo doors with drop glass and quarterlights, the panel side panel behind the front wheel covering the A post is much deeper, the oval indicator looks like it's early Fulvia etc etc. The price quoted is an auction guide, is there a reserve? I've bought my lottery ticket and would love to be able to put this car in the garage! There was a similar paint scheme in red and black (I think) which is even more striking. Guy Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: rikardo on 16 November, 2014, 03:43:55 AM There was indeed a red and black car. But red and white is nice too! (Watkins Glen 1980)
Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: chriswgawne on 16 November, 2014, 05:12:27 AM Weren't there 3 of them in different colours at Brands and/or Silverstone with Patrese & Alboreto and maybe De Cesaris? I seem to remember being given a Press Pack by Gerald Sims at Ivor Hill way back then as I had bought a Monte Carlo from them and I think the 3 stickers are still on my toolbox. The colour schemes were very innovative then.

The first car was the one on the MC consortium stand at last year’s NEC show the second one is John Days Title: Re: Beta Turbo Race Car Post by: rikardo on 16 November, 2014, 02:10:20 PM So is the ex-Nigel Frampton car still in the UK? I would really like to see it. Can anyone here help point me in the right direction?
Believe it or not, Nigel bought the car from me in its un-built state, as can be seen in the first photo, along with most, if not all, of the moulds to fabricate the bodywork. These were taken from a car in Germany pre me buying it. As the seller wanted as much, or more, money for the Ferrari V8 as the rolling tub, bodywork, etc., I declined! The intention being to fit an integrale/thema engine, much like in John Day's car. |
