There I was tweaking our new acquisition Prisma Symbol to run from cold (faulty water temp sensor) in the garage with the doors open running up to temperature when I noticed a lot of liquid on the floor. Thought it was a water leak but then discovered it was a petrol leak!  :o

The rubber fuel line coming from the engine bulkhead to the fuel filter (1600 i.e.) had perished in a big way and had decided to let go at that point where it bent round to go past the alternator onto the filter. A fine spray on to the alternator/exhaust down pipe did not ignite......

Replaced with 8mm Cavis Benz blue fuel line as used on Fulvias.....

Maybe all Delta owners should check this area. Our car had only done 35000 miles and was like new under the bonnet.

Timely!!!   Also a reminder to have a garage extinguisher and one in the car.

Will put big extinguisher on my xmas list.....

It only passed its MOT a few days earlier!!!

Back about 2003 I bought my second series 3 Thema,after collecting it I was coming around the Norwich ring road when I smelt petrol, I stopped and opened the bonnet to find the pipe where it connected to the fuel injection rail was spraying petrol out under high pressure, one of those "There but for the grace of God go I" moments.

I attended a talk by the fire brigade a few years ago and they advised that anything less than a 2.5 kg extinguisher was no real use on a car. It's rather chunky to lug around but worth thinking about.

Plumbed in is the best solution! bottle in the boot, pipe to multiple nozzles in the engine bay aimed at the risky areas is recommended. There's been at least one Stratos replica reduced to ashes by fire....
