Title: 1972 Monte Carlo Rally Post by: nthomas1 on 17 February, 2016, 08:16:52 AM I have a few questions about Fulvias in the 1972 Monte Carlo Rally. I'm in Spain at the moment and my books that might help me with these questions are back in the UK, so here goes:
(1) The winning number 14 car of Munari and Mannucci carries a decal on the front wing that says "Almeria". Am I right in thinking that is where the car started from? Almeria is the name of both a province and a city in the south of Spain, not far from where I'm currently located. (2) Does anybody know where I could find the route that was used to get from Almeria to Monte Carlo? At some stage I'd like to drive that route, or at least the part of it that goes through Spain. (3) What were the start points of the other Fulvias in 1972? Looking at images on Google I can see a picture of one car in Athens with the Acropolis behind it, and another of part of a car with a Glasgow sticker. However, I'm not sure if these are pictures of the 1972 event. In total, out of 242 starters only twenty six were classified as finishers. The start points were: Almeria: Athens: Frankfurt: Glasgow: Lisbon: Monte Carlo: Oslo: Reims and Varsovie. Burzet this year for the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique was, for the second year running, completely devoid of snow, as can be seen by my photograph, taken at 02.00hrs on the final loop. Title: Re: 1972 Monte Carlo Rally Post by: nthomas1 on 07 April, 2018, 10:30:36 AM I managed to find this map of the 1972 starting points and routes to Monaco and it shows the nine starting locations that Peter mentioned plus Marrakech. It's a big step forward in my quest to determine the exact route that the winning car took from Almeria in southern Spain. Does anybody have a better copy of this map by any chance?
