Title: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 14 May, 2016, 01:13:22 PM Just a heads up for next years Great Northern Weekend.
As some of you may know, last weekend Claire and myself were volunteered to arrange the event and so not shirking a challenge we been busy investigating suitable venues. From the success of last weekends event, we have decided to go for early to mid May again, that way there should be no excuses that it's too cold, wet, salty or the cars are still SORN over the winter months. Obviously there is a higher chance of warmer weather too, although don't hold us to it. We have contacted around a dozen venues so far, all with over 50 bedrooms, great ammenities and good safe car parking, to date half have declined due to previous (mainly wedding) commitments, two are very interested, others have stated 'maybes' and the remaining are yet to respond. We are expecting to have a definitive venue organised in the next fortnight or so and will keep everyone informed in due course. Thanks, Claire & Paul Greenway *Just amended the title so it isn't abbreviated - for search engines, new members etc ;) Title: Re: GNW 2017 Post by: lancialulu on 14 May, 2016, 09:57:02 PM Well done for stepping forward.
Its hard work but very rewarding! Looking forward to hear more re date and venue. We intend to be there!! Tim and Sarah Title: Re: GNW 2017 Post by: lanky on 17 May, 2016, 03:32:28 PM Well done Paul and Claire - we will look forward to that.
Title: Re: GNW 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 03 June, 2016, 09:57:34 PM Update- Hotel is confirmed, we have all 52 rooms provisionally allocated & whole Car Park so all Lancias will be together. Claire and I are very excited about the venue, it is in prime spot with great views and plenty amenities. After some haggling- mainly on Claire's side we have agreed a great deal for the quality on offer. I am intending there to be two driving routes, one about 60 miles that will be testing on both car (ensure gearbox and brakes are in fine fettle) and driver who will require their wits about them, however the reward is magnificent, the other less demanding route of about 40 miles is still a lovely drive though. Definitive information will follow both on the forum and the July issue of VL magazine at the same time. Cheers, Paul. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: rogerelias on 04 June, 2016, 10:24:21 AM Well done both, I hope the route is not fast, as I drive very slowly
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 04 June, 2016, 04:34:57 PM Ha, Ha Roger ;D, the pace is leisurely- just for you, staying on the road is the tricky bit ;)
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 11 July, 2016, 08:00:32 PM Hi all,
Hotel confirmed, advertisement in July edition of Viva Lancia! as follows- Great Northern Weekend: Lake District 12th-14th May 2017 Following the successful GNW held at Harrogate in May this year you are warmly invited to next years event which will be at the 4 star Beech Hill Hotel and Spa, Newby Bridge Road, Windermere, LA23 3LR. This should be a fantastic venue with the most stunning backdrop on the banks of England's largest lake. We have managed to secure all 57 rooms and it would be brilliant if we could fill them all. There is a large car park. The hotel has given us a special discounted price of £320 including two nights bed & breakfast, 3 course gala dinner with sparkling wine reception and coffee / tea. Should you wish to stay for one night the cost is £185 including DBB. There are a number of family rooms and the cost per child is £37.50 (including dinner). The cost for a single room is half that of the double room. There are a small number of rooms on the ground floor, please specify at time of booking. There is also full use of the leisure facilities. Bookings can be made directly with the hotel on 08445027587. Stephanie is the lovely lady who has organised it. They require a deposit of £75 in total. Balance of payment to be made on check out. (Please let them know you're with the Lancia Motor Club.) It would be great if we could fill the hotel and have exclusive use of all the facilities. The hotel is situated just a 5 minute drive from Bowness and only 20 minutes drive from J36 of M6. We plan to follow the successful & well oiled format for the weekend with a touring rally planned for the Saturday to take in some of the stunning scenery the Lake District has to offer. There will also be a couple of quizzes to get you thinking. Let's just hope that the weather is as kind to us as it was this year. Further information and menus will be sent out early next year. Please book soon to avoid disappointment. We hope to see you all there. If you've never been to a GNW before please come along, they are always a fantastic opportunity to meet up with old friends and meet new people, share an interest in cars and have a relaxing weekend being waited on in beautiful surroundings. There is something for everyone. Hope you all had a great Christmas and the New Year is prosperous. Just a heads up regarding the 2017 GNW. The Hotel is already over 70% booked, so please let's get the final 16Nr rooms occupied so we can have total run of the place. As all who have attended previously the GNW is a fabulous event and the Lakes in May is not to be missed. For those interested, please see the advert in Viva Lancia! and put your deposit down directly with Stephanie at the Hotel at the earliest opportunity to avoid any possible disappointment. The menu's for both adults and children have been finalised and what a selection we have, please see attached. Hard copies will be in next months VL for all to complete and return to both the Hotel & myself. See you all there. Saluti. Paul & Claire Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: rogerelias on 17 January, 2017, 07:23:08 PM Sorry Paul, will have to give it a miss this year, as no dogs allowed :(
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 18 January, 2017, 06:48:20 PM Sorry Paul, will have to give it a miss this year, as no dogs allowed :( Apologies for that Roger, especially as Anne & yourself are regulars at GNW's. Not being a dog owner I never even considered this element, however we do have another couple with a dog who have booked alternative arrangements for the weekend attending (I can obtain details if you require) who will be coming on the touring rally & we are accommodating them for the gala dinner. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: rogerelias on 18 January, 2017, 09:09:23 PM Thanks Paul, not a problem, we have made other arrangements now, cheers
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: James Nelson on 26 January, 2017, 04:05:28 PM My wife & dog & I have been regulars for some years & equally miffed about no dogs, but the dog is very old, some may remember her last year eating ice cream at the railway station ,after she had just had all her teeth out !! However she is one year older & not in good health so she may not survive until May.We have a room booked which we might pass on to a son who came last year & we could then go somewhere else if the dog is still with us.
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: neil-yaj396 on 23 February, 2017, 07:28:24 AM I have had an email from the organisers of the Cumbria show asking how many of us might attend on the Sunday morning? Can any one who is definitely going let me know via email - neilpinleeds@gmail.com.
Thanks Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 06 April, 2017, 08:39:19 PM Latest-
52 of the 57 rooms booked to date, it would be absolutely amazing if we could fill it up to take advantage of the whole facility to ourselves. Without harping on, the GNW is a wonderful event, one of the finest on the LMC calendar with wonderful people and in superb settings. Claire and I are going up there on Saturday to finalise all details and complete the touring rally/observation run whilst the weather forecast is favourable. If I don't write again before the event, see you all there. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 10 April, 2017, 09:00:39 AM Both scenic runs have been established, the Touring Rally/Observation run will be around 45 miles whilst the alternative (& a little more challenging) route without clues will be around 65 miles, the latter picking up the start and end of the former. The weather was gorgeous on Saturday, I hope it will be the same on the event itself. As I said in my previous post, only 5 rooms out of the possible 57 left to book, please could we ensure to make it a 100% Lancia attendance and have the hotel to ourselves. Thanks to all those who have already enrolled, you won't be disappointed. Between the hotel and myself we have to date only received 40 menu's/car details. Please can those outstanding confirm your food choices and car/reg number details to Stephanie at the Hotel and to me at paulgreenway65@gmail.com at your earliest convenience, thanks. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 24 April, 2017, 10:01:05 PM Less than 3 weeks to go to the 2017 GNW and almost everything is sorted.
As mentioned in the final paragraph of my last post there are still outstanding vehicle and menu details from a number of people attending. Apologies if these have been sent to the Hotel, but I have not been party to them and Stephanie at the hotel I understand only has booking surnames. Some people may not have a computer/internet access and/or are not on the forum so I will be unable to obtain this information at this late stage, however others will be, so please can you Email (paulgreenway65@gmail.com) or PM me with your party & car/reg details in order for me to compile a list of participants & their vehicles that I would like to include in the welcome pack on arrival. Please do not take this the wrong way but Stephanie has sent me the following names that she & I have not received this information from, they are Adamson, Bradwell, Capaldi, Jones, Phipps, Priestman, Radgick, Smal & Taylor and any other last minute bookings. Kindly appreciated in advance thank you. Paul. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Mihran on 06 May, 2017, 01:21:15 PM Hello all,
Sorry I'm not a regular forumist. Looking forward to seeing you all next weekend! I'll be there with my daughter and our 1971 Fulvia. On the Sunday we're happy to join in on the Westmorland County Show. Saturday, long or shorter run, whichever one is best to join :-) Mihran'. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 07 May, 2017, 06:12:59 PM Last minute information & itinerary-
Less than a week to go, everything is as organised as could be expected although there are still some people who have not provided menu choices or car/reg details which does not help when trying to finalise welcome packs & seating plans. Not to worry. According to 'The Met Office' the weather for Windermere is remaining dry until next Sunday with a mixture of sunny spells and cloud so fingers crossed they get it right. There is a great selection of cars from Lambda's to the latest Delta & Ypsilon and most models in between. The shortest and most direct route to get to the Hotel is from M6 J36 take A590 & follow for Barrow & Ulverston until you approach Newby Bridge (You will come off the dual carriageway, drop down past the Shell filling station into Newby Bridge) and then take the A592 for Windermere & Bowness at the roundabout. Timescale from J36 is 24 mins and distance is just under 20 miles. Address for the Hotel is Beech Hill Hotel & SPA, Newby Bridge Road, Windermere. LA23 3LR. I will be at the Hotel from 11.00hrs on the Friday, check in is from 15.00hrs but i'm sure if you get there earlier it won't be a problem. There is no real agenda for Friday, there will be a welcome pack on arrival, but feel free to use the hotel Spa & pool facilities, take a walk by the lake, pop into scenic Bowness which is only a five minute drive away or lounge around in the hotel where there will be a choice of restaurant or bar meals and a large reception/bar area where you can mix with the other members- the choice is yours. There are two amazing routes on Saturday, a long 65 mile run without clues (you won't want any distractions from the driving experience & scenery) starting around 11.00hrs and a shorter 45 mile observation run that will commence once the cars opting for the longer route have gone. Both routes beginning & latter stages are the same so hopefully all the cars will end at the same location prior to returning to the hotel before 17.30hrs. Observation run sheets and quiz sheets will require to be handed to Claire no later than 18.00hrs for marking prior to the Gala Dinner. Looking forward to seeing you all there. Kind regards, Paul. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: JohnMillham on 10 May, 2017, 09:27:43 AM I regret that Roland and I will not be in my Lambda after all, as it needs a few things doing to it which won't be done in time, so we will be in my Yeti. Don't be too shocked when you see I'm as bald as a coot!
Regards, John Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Chris Hopkins on 14 May, 2017, 05:35:44 PM A big thank you to Paul and Claire for a very enjoyable Great Northern Weekend, good hotel in a fabulous position, friendly staff and great driving country and as usual lovely Lancia folk to share the experience. The only slight mishap was when my rubber mounting deciding not to hold the back of my exhaust to the car, then I wrecked Jan's belt trying to hold up aa hot pipe as I forgot to put any wire in the Dedra for this very purpose.
Fortunately not far behind were the 2000HF Team of James and Iain Nelson who came to the rescue with some wire, so we were back in business - thank you again chaps. Back to Scotland next year - yippee! Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: sparehead3 on 14 May, 2017, 08:06:46 PM I'll second that - thanks very much Paul and Claire ! We had a great time and made it back ok. Lovely roads to drive on , great hotel , views and great company. We'll be back !
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Mihran on 15 May, 2017, 09:51:15 AM Super weekend and thanks again to Paul, Claire & the boys.
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Neil on 15 May, 2017, 10:32:46 AM It was the first time Dianne and I had attended the event and the longest run we had done in my Fulvia for many years too, 700 miles round trip, it certainly lived up to its name! Thanks to Paul and Claire for arranging a lovely weekend, great hotel and company too.
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: lancialulu on 15 May, 2017, 12:48:03 PM Re-iterate all of the above. Great work Paul and Claire you have got the job in 2020!!!!
Could folk do a write up and photos (or just photos) to Jack Romano / Mike Long for VL publishing. All mine were taken in the rainy conditions on Saturday so I know some of you have a good set when the sun was shining on Saturday afternoon. And we had a blast back with the new cache of club tools kindly donated by Dr David Wheeler. Got home in 5 hours (240 miles you do the math) including a pit stop..... Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: neil-yaj396 on 16 May, 2017, 06:07:16 AM The tools didn't weigh you down too much then Tim.....
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: lancialulu on 16 May, 2017, 09:20:51 AM The tools didn't weigh you down too much then Tim..... The rear wheels only scraped the rear arches about a dozen times. Shame as they were new tyres........What one does for this club!Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 18 May, 2017, 08:34:53 PM Thanks to all the GNW participants in Windermere last weekend, it was a great event made better with you all being there.
We nearly filled the 56 rooms in the hotel, had almost 50 Lancia's- a good spread of models from the 20's to date- and over 100 people for the Gala dinner including those from Holland, Spain & Hong Kong. It makes all the organising worthwhile when an event is appreciated by a big turnout. Grazie mille once again to those who have messaged us on the forum, social media, email & of course those who thanked us in person. See you all in Scotland next year. Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: Paul Greenway on 18 May, 2017, 08:38:34 PM Some Car Park shots- No doubt someone out there has some better one's, what about you David Bailey?
Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: DavidLaver on 19 May, 2017, 10:22:48 AM Strange looking at those photos - for me its the Dedras and Themas that make me nostalgic as the rest were always "classics". Is that a March Augusta? Title: Re: Great Northern Weekend 2017 Post by: sparehead3 on 19 May, 2017, 10:52:18 AM Yes it was a March Augusta - there was also Lambda too at one point :)
