Title: Warning from South Africa re Coupe for Sale in UK
Post by: fay66 on 10 October, 2016, 09:22:25 PM
Received this today from Felix Furtak in South Africa.

It has come to our attention that a red Fulvia coupe is in the process to be sold to the UK. We urge the potential buyer to get in touch with us before sealing the deal, as the car has serious issues. Please pass on this message to other prospective buyers. Thank you.

Yours Sincerely

It looks like the listing has been taken down. That's a nice Fulvia Berlina that's listed though.

Dear Lancia Driver

There is currently a metallic blue Fulvia S2 coupe for sale in the Western Cape, with blue/white interior.
We had the opportunity to thoroughly inspect the car.
While the engine is running alright, the gearshift is stuck due to some assembly fault, and worst of all
both rear sub frame mountings , the well know notorious point on the Fulvia
are broken. The rest of the sills are not any better.
The general condition of trim and bright work is very poor.
The car requires extensive and costly restoration.

Hi Brian
Is this the red Fulvia coupe from Poole that's just been re-listed due to time waster?

Sorry Derek, no idea as I've only passed on the Warnings from Felix, he did however say it was in South Africa.

There is currently this Fulvia on the market: (Bloomsbury Classic Cars South Africa) The Red one.

Before you commit to buy, here is the background:

We did rebuild the body app. 20 years ago, sills, subframe mounts, rear panel, boot lid was replaced.
The interior was recovered with leather.
It looked like this:

However the owner, Mr. Goldhill refused to fix the brakes citing, the car would be for the wife. Same wife drove the car against
a wall 3 month later. The front end was then patched up ( and never paid for ! ) , and the car was put in storage outside in the garden.
Here it stood for 15 years, the water finding its way through the bonnet and the rear parcel shelf.
The car was then picked up by a car dealer and brought to us.
Finally we did rebuild the brake system and attended to steering and suspension.
However we noticed that:
a) the rear parcel shelf was soldered together with tinfoil, the bootlid hinges being totally seized.
b) the bonnet skin was replaced with a flat panel, and the "bulge" was modelled with filler, resulting in an enormous weight.
We then fitted on a good bonnet , only to notice that the bonnet was 2 cm too long. Hence we can conclude that the car is
still 2 cm too short from hitting the wall. The owner decided to put the short bonnet back and put it on the market.
c) the trim and interior of the car is in appalling condition. the interior and roof lining needs to be redone completely.
d) The engine is "as is" from 1972, and is subsequently old and tired. the timing chain/tensioner rattle terribly.
e) The rims are all buckled and it needs new tyres all around.

So while the car is structurally sound ( unlike the white/blue ) one, it still has a long way to go to be an enjoyable Fulvia.

Yours Sincerely
