Pity we can't convince Alan to re-join the Club!

The stadium photograph is brilliant!!! What is interesting is that presumably is at the end of an event and what we are seeing is a seven lane (minimum)  queue of cars trying to exit!!! So problems getting out of events is not a new phenomenon!!

What stadium is it please ... a lovely piece of architecture!!!

What's the dark 'fastback' car centre foreground in the stadium shot? Some type of Fiat? Non-Lancia but pretty stylish.

I think it is a Fiat 1400 Ghia Berlinetta Supergioiello.

Alan Still has his Beta Volumex Coupe that he's been restoring for many years now, but I can't see him re-joining anytime soon.

That is quite a heap of tyres on the Servizio Corse  car in the night-time shot. Must have made for interesting handling!!

I need to correct myself! On advice this was the one and only time Sandro "rolled" a Lancia. In this case roll meant that he parked it on its side - so Stan you called it correctly! Still finished second

There was something about the photo that made it look as though the weight was still shifting the wrong way. Takes a lot to do that when you consider how low the engine sits between the wheels.

With the tipping Fulvia I'd assumed it had cut in too close and bounced off the apex.

On the corner it was going over to the left and once parked it is on its' right side so presumably it has gone all the way over.

I agree it is fab, it's the old San Siro stadium in Milan, 1920s originally, and later extended up and out but you can still see the original design within the later stadium.
Very elegant design solution as the external ramps up to the seating don't take up much room, AND provide the diagonal bracing for the structure to make it very strong with minimal material used.

I had not realised the diagonal elements were the access walkways. As you say a very neat and elegant solution to two unrelated design requirements.

Back in the early 1960's I used to drive a car transporter for a living delivering new Vauxhalls to the docks for shipment mainly to Canada, another Company we worked with had one similar to this one, and it was always breaking down with cars stuck on top deck, the only way to get them off was to use an artic transporter with the cab at right angles the the other one, and with the other trailer in the up position lined up the the broken down one, then the cars were driven from one to the other, bit dodgy but it worked, I'll see if I can find the photo of it in action.

One not a Lancia by look of it although it appears to be a belt drive, and there's writing on the doors in English, although this might be a foreign car possibly at the sheds at Brooklands or somewhere similar.

I doubt if a car that size was belt-driven, Brian. I think that's more likely to be the countershaft for a chain-drive assembly; the large drum is presumably a transmission brake. My guess is Fiat, circa 1908 ... but that is only a guess!

Couldn't think what else the pulley might be for, but my first thoughts to Alan was that it had the look of a big Fiat from that period about it.

They could probably increase performance if they removed, say, about a quarter of a ton from the flywheel.

That flywheel looks like a robot wars weapon.

I would like to suggest that it is an early Locomobile! I was taken by the makeshift wooden trestles used to support the front axle ..... then noticed one has Loco written on it. Google 'Loco' and up pops Locomobile and, of course, a few images! The bonnet shape of the cars seems to be consistent and accords with the shape of the scuttle.

It's just a thought ......

Well done,Andy; I think you've nailed it! It looks like it's one of the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup cars; I was puzzled by the message in English on the garage door, but an American location would explain it.

What always amazes me is that the first Benz trundled along the road in 1886. Here we are 20 years later and we are looking at a scene not that much different in essence to a modern pit. A specialised racer as advanced as it can be, being stripped and worked on by mechanics in what has become a serious business. Just a few years later the Peugeots appeared with twin cam 4 valve per cylinder engines and that set the scene for years to come. Exactly the same with aircaft. From the Wright Flyer to a Fokker DVII in 14 years.

No, that's a Farina bodied Astura. Very similar to the farina Augustas, but that much bigger. Nothing like a March, as the caption suggests.

Unfortunately none of the Facebook photos from Alan come with captions so the caption was mine, hence the question mark as I thought I'd got it wrong, but not being into that era of Lancia, the only one I could think of with a similar grille was the Augusta, and the only open Augusta I could think of was the March. ::)

The Flavia Vignale Coupe is a one off therefore priceless. It was seen at Lancia Rewind - Valdobbiadene, Italy during April.

The Flavia Vignale coupe was a one-off, but Vignale produced several hundred of this body style on the Fiat 1300 and 1500 chassis between 1962 and 1967:

They seem to come on the market quite frequently; this was one of three that I saw on Subito last year, all around the €12,000 figure:
