Lancia Motor Club

This is a topic that has generated quite a lot of interest in the Lancia Fulvia group on Facebook so I thought I’d share it with the forum.

It started with a posting (first picture below) on another Lancia Fulvia related Facebook group.  I don’t know if it is true that Castagnero when he was designing the Fulvia coupe was influenced by the shape of the Riva, as suggested in this post, but it does seem plausible.  It’s not something I’d read about before but it made me think of a picture I had seen in Style Auto magazine many years ago. I dug out the picture (second photo below) and while the article it came from didn’t mention speedboats, the left hand side of the image (described as “the basic idea”) certainly evoked the image of a speedboat.  The right hand side of the picture blacks out certain sections, leaving the shape of the Fulvia coupe.

I then found a birds-eye picture of a Riva speedboat on Google (picture 3), and finally, a birds-eye view of a Fulvia that I took in Naples about 40 years ago.  I think they lend credence to the suggestion.   Has anybody seen reference to this before?

Sounds plausible to me. In design everything is influenced by something else, sometimes without even realising it. Though this would seem to be more of a conscious influence, if true. Should have been called the Fulvia Barchetta.

Now that would be an incredible feat of engineering to shoehorn 2 Lamborghini engines into a Fulvia! :o But boy, would it go! ;D

A pair of Thema 8:32 engines would work for me though I have a feeling that has been done.

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that there are no longer any new Riva boats being built. Every Riva you see will be a 'classic' of some age. I thought it was one of those brands that would go on forever. They are truly beautiful things though. Imagine the noise of those two Lamborghini engines......

Here's the Lancia di Lancia powerboat from a few years back. It had twin Fiat N67-560 diesel marine engines.  I remember reading about a speedboat with a Stratos engine at a Fiat promotional event at an Italian GP in the late 70s. Does anybody know anything about the Flaminia-class speed boats from back in the 1960s?  Did they have Lancia engines or was the naming just a coincidence?

We had a thread on this recently.  They did use the Flaminia V6.

The Flaminia powerboat thread was 6th May 2017 in General Chat.

I finally found the Thema 8:32 engine power boat but pictures of the engine installation still elude me.

The Bewl Water run fortunately had good weather. Our group of six found a great spot at a table on the clubhouse restaurant balcony,

That must have been a great sight to see. Bet it sounded nice too.

Just like going back in time really. Once the boat was on it's trailer, I noticed the two bladed propeller was quite small
